Trying to find out if this would help my parents to save some money - tried the BT web site but cannot find any 'working' link on their site. Would be grateful if any one could point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

bt's site is very difficult to navigate and i've complained to them about this (and it was a waste of time).
what you must remember is that if 'you' want the light user scheme is to tell them that you have NO MOBILE PHONE and no access to one. believe it or not i had a huge dispute with bt over this point as they said it was relevant and that if i had one or access to one then it did not meet there criterea for the light user scheme.
also remembered that i told them the public telephones are stinking disgrace, a 15 min walk away in any direction and often do not work.0 -
Was able to get them on to LUS (just had to confirm that there was no access to a mobile) - but as I suggested I was finding it very difficult to find any comparison details on BT site or elsewhere. Seems like they do not want anyone to be aware of the scheme.0

Thanks for this info!!
I've been going through the details, after a search on the BT site for "Light User scheme" gives a result on the search page but then a broken link.
This is similar to a scheme I had back in portugal, and if I understand correctly, then if I spend less than £4.32 in calls per month (inc. VAT), then they will reduce my line rental cost (which is £12 for this scheme) by ... something? How can I read this:
"Where the customer monthly call bill is at or below £4.32 (Inc VAT), the rebate will be 9.5p (Exc VAT) for every 10p (Exc VAT) that call charges fall below £8.63 (Inc VAT) in any one month."
The other tiers seems clearer, with the second tier giving a fixed rebate of £3.99 and the third excluding a rebate, but this first one (where we'll probably fall) seems weird: it can't be 9.5 for every 10, do they really cut 95% of the line rental?
Any help?
(and ok, tell them I don't have access to a mobile... but does anybody really believe this? With mobiles as cheap as £5?)Being brave is going after your dreams head on0 -
Say you spend £2 incl. VAT on calls in a month. That's £2.32 below the £4.32 threshold - so, establish how many 10p's there are in £2.23 (22) and multiply by 9.5p to work out what your rebate would be.
22 x £0.095 = £2.09 and, subtracting that from the £12 line rental, you'd pay £9.91
I think.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Oooh I see.
Actually the threshold for the rebate is actually £8.63 (with VAT, 7.34 without) - the £4.32 is for the calls, so that means that if I don't make any calls, for example:
* there are 73 10ps in the limit of £7.34
* 73 x 9.5p = £6.93
* 12-6.93 = £5.07 --> my line rental cost?
This looks goodBeing brave is going after your dreams head on0 -
Yes, it looks that way (better than I'd - sort of - worked out).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. I just mentioned this to Barcode and she told me to be careful that it doesn't affect the broadband connection.
Would they give us a 'lower' line just for being in the scheme, instead of a normal one? I can't really believe that, there must be only one standard.
No?Being brave is going after your dreams head on0 -

Why are you encouraging people to lie (if its not true)?
Please remember that BT are not subsidising the Light User Scheme but that other BT customers are.. - i.e. our bills are slightly higher than they would be otherwise
