My daughter is at her b/f place now, just brought one of his cats home from the vets when a fire broke in the flat.
She could not find the cats (2 cats), it is a small studio flat, fire brigade arrived and told her to get out.
I so hope the cats are ok, positive thoughts from everyone please ....firefighters can not find the cats so far
Waiting for news, they are 5 hours away from me, absolutely nothing I can do....

Oh dear, they found the cats under the bed thanks God for that.
Whole kitchen destroyed but they had the presence of the mind to shut the kitchen door to stop the fire spreading and to break the room's window to get to the cats....
Fire brigade took fridge and w/machine out, electricla fault caused the fire.
Main thing - they are ok and the cats seem to be ok....

Neighbours came out with coats/shoes and cat baskets for the cats. Broken windows inside (they broke in to find the cats/get them out) , kitchen ruined fire/water but everyone is ok and that is what matters.
Scared to think if this happened when they were asleep???????0 -
So glad they are all ok.
In our old rented house we had an electric fault with the fuse box. The electrician told us that the main power cable wasn't tightened and it was arking.
I was in the shower and DH noticed smoke coming from the cupboard under the stairs. He shouted up for me to get out the shower and phone the fire brigade, when I turned the shower off the smoke eased off so in the end we didn't have to phone them. We did phone the landlord and he was round like a shot. The electrician who replaced the fuse box told us that had DH not been here the fuse box would have most likely caught fire. He also said had we put the tumble drier or washer on and went to bed the house would have went up. He also told us that the fuse box that was in should have been checked when we moved in (which it wasn't) and that it shouldn't be used anymore for rented properties (not sure how true that is)... needless to say we moved properties and landlords.
It was one of the most scary things ever (I was horrified to think what could have happened had it been on a night with DD there) and even now in our new house with an RCD fuse board I don't put anything on over night or when we are not in.0 -
That is so scary...
Landlords are obliged to provide a gas certificater, why not electric?
My daughter and her b/f are not allowed back into the flat, they took the cats and went to stay with a friend there - the window will get boarded tonight but the fumes/smell I was told are not safe for them to go in for a while and of course the kitchen is ruined with w/m and fridge being thrown away and all fire/water damaged...
BUT the main thing is they are both ok and the cats are ok...
And she only went there for a short break - what a break,,,,0 -
Oh gosh, I wonder if her poor bf has insurance or will he be covered under the landlords . How traumatic, I'm sure you are shaking!Norn Iron Club member 4730
