Writing for yourself can have huge therapeutic value. It can help you think through issues that have been bothering you or give you perspective on the past. It sounds to me like this process might be very useful for you if you have had a difficult past. But I'm not sure that opening it up to an audience is a good idea. What is it you expect? If you expect or want support, I don't think this is the mechanism for it, you might find the exact opposite occurring.
But you don't have to make decisions all at once, why not commit yourself to writing for 10 minutes a day for one month. Then see how you feel. You could come back and post here as a way of reflecting on the process of writing
As for where to write it, that's up to you. I keep a diary/daily book and I have a particular brand of book and pen that I like to use. I type a lot in daily life so I like to handwrite for this as a way of distinguishing it from my other stuff. You might prefer to type. The only way to find out is to try!0 -
Writing is a huge therapy, when I was going through stressful times I kept a diary to 'dump' the stuff somewhere other than inside my head. It really helped me sleep at night to have got it all out. Not intended for others to read, in fact I actively do not want others to read it and I destroyed it once life got easier.
A friend and I (both facing similar challenges) do talk about writing a book aimed at helping others with autistic children which would include examples from our own (and others') experiences, but this is intended to be much more impersonal and focusing on behaviour management and neuroscience. I doubt we will ever get round to it, but even that would be therapeutic if we did it as it would feel what we learned might support others in similar situations.
Decide what your purpose in writing is.......others or therapy for yourself and then where to write it will follow.
Good luck.'Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.' T S Eliot0
