Life Story

Has anyone ever written down their life story on here? As most regular posters know, my life has been pretty tough and I'd like to put it into words. This, in the most part, is because I think I would find it theraputic (I seem to be doing lots of thinking lately and feel that writing it down would help get it out of my head!!!). Thing is......would anybody really be that interested? And where would I write it?

Are you having/or had an affair?
  • OP ignore the above post. Doesn't even begin to answer your question.

What about writing a blog.., but make sure nothing is identifiable about your blog or user name. Tag it so that it is easily found for anyone with the same sort of issues you've had.

    I hope that helps.

I'd like to do the same myself to be honest lol.

How would you feel if you put it out there for public consumption and nobody was really interested? If you would feel a bit hurt and upset, then I'd say don't make it public.

If you think it would be helpful to you, then do it for you, just open a word document and start typing!

Are you having any formal sort of therapy?

I don't think my life story would be interesting enough to keep anyone interested.

If it makes you feel better than do it but you would be wise to change names/places or things that identify you.

They would if you skipped to the sex and drugs and rock n roll years.

^ this. As long as it is about you writing things down, irrespective of whether or not other people read or reply, then go for it I'd say. You could do it in the form of a journal/diary, adding to it over time.

If you think you'd be upset by a lack of interest (or unsympathetic comments) on here then don't. A traditional off-line diary could work.

Personally I like reading people's life stories, but I often feel I am unable/not qualified to comment.

Writing stuff down can be therapeutic but I don't understand why you want to share the story.

It's your motivation that will dictate where you write it and who you should share it with.

If it's to share your experiences to help others in the same situation then maybe a support site might have a forum.

If it's because you think it will be interesting as a stand alone story then you could try self publishing on, say, Kindle.

To be honest, I find a lot of autobiographies to be a little self indulgent and few authors can resist the temptation of having a dig at others they see have done them wrong.

So, I guess I'm saying, figure out why you really want to do it - what you hope to achieve from it - and only then choose your audience.

I started to write my life story in a word document I kept on USB memory stick after I was diagnosed with cancer so my kids would be able to read it when they grew up incase the worst happened and the treatment didn't fix me. One thing I regret is not really knowing my Dad very well before he died so I thought I'd not leave my kids with the same feeling (although they're still very young and I was in my late 20's when my Dad died).

Fortunately I'm coming up on 2 years clear now but I still read it once in a blue moon to remind myself of how lucky I am but also to remind myself that once upon a time I was a bit of a moron when it came to relationships! :)

I also started an online blog but I never really got started on it, nevermind finished!

There's nothing wrong with writing your life story, but if you are doing it for therapeutic purposes, there's no need to post it on here.

People either won't be interested - if I see a very long post, I often can't be bothered to read it.

Or, and probably even worse, people will pull your life apart. It'll be public property, and people's comments might not be to your liking.

Keep it on a word document, safer that way.
