Bizarre and ridiculous insurance demands!!
A few days ago I renewed my car insurance online via a comparison site with Flux Direct and I can't quite believe the email I've just received from them, has anyone else ever had anything like this when starting a new car insurance policy...
They've demanded that they have to receive by post in the next 7 days the following...
- Proof of no claims (Even though my existing policy doesn't
expire for another 3 weeks)
- My driving license, both photocard and paper section
- All pages of vehicles v5 logbook
- 5 dated photographs of the vehicle
- At least 2 utility bills dated within the last 3 months
I wouldn't mind but I'm a mature driver with a clean license and no claims, living in a good postcode with a reasonably ordinary car (completely standard Renaultsport clio)
Think I'll be cancelling this policy forthwith, if they make me jump through hoops like this just to take out the policy God only knows what would happen in the event of having to make a claim with them!!

First two are reasonable, last one could be if there's an issue with the credit agreement if you're paying monthly but the other two are a bit odd.
But I think Flux are just a broker so it'll be the insurance company asking for it0 -
The pictures imply it is a specialist or agreed value policy. Given Flux tend to specialise in sportier cars that isn't a shock.
More companies asking for copies of driving license now so that isn't a surprise. The V5 is a bit strange though.
Utility bills - are you taking finance for the policy payments?
As for no claims, given them a call and explain. They'll put that bit on hold I'd think. It'll be a standard email. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
The photographs are a standard requirement of the agreed value classic car insurance market they've come from.
I've had to do that with them in the past, but they've never asked for any of the rest.
I have had to provide copy of V5, and Licence after an accident, in order to process the claim.0 -
Thanks for the replies so far, I've paid up front not monthly and the photo's still seem bizarre to me... its just a bog standard 05 clio.. hardly a classic or specialist vehicle!
It's especially wound me up as I'm not tech savvy at all, don't own a scanner, printer or even a camera!0 -
I used to use them when I had a modified car, one year they sent me about 20 pages to fill in detailing every mod and who/where fitted it.
Didn't mind as they were about half of the next nearest quote I had at the time.
Used Chris Knott the following year with no extra paper work thankfully.0 -
Puzzled about the photos, it's normally classics that need that so they can gauge a value.
By any chance is the car accident registered? If it was cat C/D then photos would make sense.0 -
Do they really want your actual driving licence - or just a copy??"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0
-
You need to decide whether to comply or not.
Either way don't leave it long as they won't wait long before moving to cancel your policy.
If that happens you will have this on your record for evermore and will have to disclose it to all future insurers you approach for quotes. Many will refuse leaving you stuck with expensive options if you can find any.0 -
It actually gets better still... although this is partly my stupid fault!
I noticed on the email they sent me it had my wrong home address (I almost moved to Anglesey 2 years ago and at the time I got some Comparison site quotes for what was to be my new address, however the move fell through)
Somehow the Anglesey address was still in the system when I got this quote (even though I've renewed twice in that time at my correct address??) and I didn't notice... I've just phoned them up to explain my mistake and give them the correct address and the upshot is they cant offer me a policy at my actual address, policy cancelled minus a £45 arrangement fee!
Quite an expensive mistake to make, although I feel like it's a blessing in disguise as I'm still fuming at all their ridiculous demands and I'm happy to take my business elsewhere.
I'm surprised some people are finding these demands pretty reasonable, I've been driving for 25 years and had some quite specialist/high performance cars in that time and never previously had to provide so much additional info just to get cover!0 -
And in answer to the other replies..
No it isn't a Cat C/D
No it isn't modded
Yes, the way it's worded it sounds like they want the actual driving license and actual v5!0
