Thanks all. I thought Sky Go was now on android. Didn't realise it varied by device.

Oh I am beginning to think I should reconsider stretching the budget & going for the iPad mini.

According to here the app works on 3 android devices, Nexus 7 and Samsung Tab2 & Tab3 both the 7" form.

The Hudl appears to have better specs plus if you have any Tesco points their site says they can be value doubled.

I'll be interested to hear comments on build qualities and responsiveness of any low end 7" tablets as I'm in the market for one too. I haven't looked carefully yet but on specs alone I'm leaning towards the Hudl. The old style Nexus 7 can be had for only £20 more but you could incrementally step up to top of the range with arguments like that and I too would prefer closer to £100 outlay.

Hmmm after starting to read reviews of it I'm getting less keen on the Hudl....

Re your last line, odd you come to that conclusion when most reviews of the Hudl are very positive

I've read some more and just bought one with Tesco vouchers. It's for my Grandson who seems to get on well with my Nexus 7. As he's only 3 he probably won't be running benchmarks just "Monster Birds" as he calls it along with other games. Annoyingly they are oos on the rubber bumpers and the other cases will be useless as he'll take it out. Of course being a Tesco one there's no third party ones on eBay yet but I guess they may appear before Christmas.

    i'm torn between these 2 too and i'm 39.
going to do the usual stuff music, films photos and of course apps, but if the hudl doesn't support all apps on google play i may go for the samsung. which i have noticed has £40 off at argos at the moment.

It's unlikely that any budget tablet will support every application. Even some up market ones won't. For instance there are apps designed to work with the Tegra chipset and most phones and tablets don't use that.

If your device doesn't support some application or other you just won't get shown it in the Play store. There are ways to get the apk for unsupported apps but the chances are they will either fail to run completely or give a very poor performance.
