Phone insurance
Options
After a long while of second-hand and terrible phones I have decided to treat myself to a shiny new phone! I am more or less sold on the Galaxy s4 and am currently weighing up between a Tesco mobile contract at £30 a month and a Vodafone contract through phones4u at £33 a month but with £105 cashback through tcb. The only thing I hadn't considered was insurance!! I didn't realise that £12 was now the norm, and having lost 2 phones in the last year/had them stolen, I figure this is more or less essential!
I am with Nationwide and am considering upgrading my account for the free phone insurance and the other extras. However I was just wondering if anyone had any positive experiences with third party insurers? These forums are full of Protect Your Bubble etc horror stories and the Insure2go that MSE recommends doesn't look much better!
Any opinions gratefully received!!

Depending on your airtime needs it can be even cheaper to buy it sim-free for £390ish and to use on Ovivo Freedom.0 -
I hadn't seen that offer thanks! There are lots of great deals out there, it's not going to be too hard to choose. I'd just really resent paying £12.50 extra a month to o2 for insurance!
Was just wondering if it's ever worth going with someone other than the network for insurance?0 -
actually quidco have £55 cashback on this phone through CPW, think it ends today though!0

I can tell you that the Nationwide account insurance worked well for me when I had to claim on a lost/stolen iphone. The claim was sorted withing 10days - big excess of £100 though, which seems the norm nowadays (£50 for other makes though I think).
Make sure you keep your delivery note/invoice showing the IMEI from the phone though, and report the loss to the police and the network in good time.
I did find cheaper cover for £6.99 p/m elsewhere, but I like the fact I can insure other phones on the account, plus I use the other benefits of the account.0
