Exploding smoothie

My son shares student accommodation and one of his flatmates left a Sainsburys smoothie alone for a few minutes only to return to find it had exploded all over the kitchen.
Despite his brave efforts to wipe it off it still has marked the walls and the ceiling.
They are all concerned now that they will lose their deposits as it will need repainting at the end of the year.
Is this a common occurence? If so has anyone had any feedback from the companies who make smoothies?

I think your son may be telling you a slightly different story to what actually happened - I can't imagine there being any reason for a smoothie to 'explode', whereas student horseplay resulting in the distribution of the smoothie throughout the kitchen is far more likely.0

For a smoothie to explode, it has to build up pressure, a lot of pressure. That would make the tetrapak/bottle bulge out. Not something that can happen without noticing and some stages in between..0

It seems strange that it has been assumed that I've been lied to?
Google exploding smoothies.0 -
The only way that a smoothie is going to explode is if
a) there's gunpowder / semtex involved,
b) it's been left out on the counter, gone off, fermented, and built up pressure (even then, I think it's unlikely)
I'd suggest that somebody has been an idiot and somebody (not necessarily your son) is telling porkies to try and get out of the 'sticky' situation.0 -
Lots of "idiots" about.0

Are you really that naive? Of course he's lying. It's a student house, they're a bunch of students, what do you expect?!0

Ok The boy had nothing to gain by telling me. It had nothing to do with me. Anyway I'll stop this thread now as the replies have had nothing to do with my question.
Lots of hangups about students on the student MS pages!0 -
I'm a student too, so no hangups here!
If it really has exploded, then I would suggest that he gets in contact with the manufacturer, as he can be charged for any damage to his house that goes above and beyond normal wear and tear.0 -
My question was asking for responses from people who knew something about the subject. Stating the obvious isn't helpful.0
