Food cost at Airports are always going vastly over priced and that will never change. People know that before hand and so have the option of paying the inflated cost of food or taking your own sandwiches, crisps etc. As already highlighted on this forum, as far as liquids are concerned you have no choice, but personally I would prefer to pay extra for a bottle of water and have a tight security. What I hate about UK airports are the small bottles of water is they have the sports caps (flip tops) rather than screw tops which I much prefer. I can never find outlets than sell the screw tops, certainly Boots and Smiths don't the Sports Caps don't always seem to clip down safely and then you worry about them leaking in your holdall.

I totally agree I much prefer small bottles of water with screw tops rather than the flip tops. Normally at airports the small bottles with screw tops don't appear to be on sale. Food at airports, I concur is just a profit making exercise with poor quality, high prices and often shoddy service. The retail outlets virtually can do what they like because they are fully aware passengers are in a rush and have no other option.
  • The UK airports whilst not good are acceptable but certainly overpriced. When it comes to European airports some of the food served is almost inedible and the prices are often sky high. Personally we avoid buying any food at airports unless there is a delay of over 90 minutes then we will consider it.

We would always try and not buy food at airports. The sandwiches often are not made on site and have a lot of preservities in them .The long sell by date is usually a clue. At least Pret a Manager in the UK make the sandwiches the same day. At Overseas airports they do not always have sell by date, as each country has their own rules. We always purchase a bottle of water and pay the vastly inflated prices charged, as we do not want to get dehydrated.
  • After a week spent in Budapest where everything was incredibly cheap for a capital city (went to a major music festival where their "jacked-up festival prices" meant a beer was £1.30), I honestly thought I had gone crazy and forgotten how to translate the currency in my head when we got to the shop post-security at the airport. Absolutely crazy prices, don't know what Hungarians going on their jollies must think about it!
