Tesco internet phone to use for VOIP via Yahoo Messenger?

I was about to try to use an Tesco E337 Corded USB Internet Phone
(Catalogue number: 100-0433) http://direct.tesco.com/product/images/?R=100-0433for VOIP through Yahoo Messenger, but having my doubts if it is possible. I heard that this phone may be hardware-locked to Tesco software? If not, then can someone please tell me how to do it in layman's term (I am ok with computer, but this is my first venture regarding VOIP). Many thanks.

I'm sure you can, I use Yahoo messenger but not with a Tesco internet phone

If you rec any Tesco software, remove it and try it with Yahoo messenger

Ive got one of these and works fine with Skype, so it should work fine with Yahoo Messenger. They are just rebranded US Robotics 9600A devices.

    Sorry to be back again.
I tried, but could not use the phone for carrying voice over the net. I either get a message saying the USB device has malfunctioned, or a garbage text on phone screen and nothing else! Can anyone please help?
I have tried without the software and also after installing the software but without creating a Tesco internet account, but to no avail.

Maybe try downloading the software/drivers from the USR website instead of using the Tesco ones that came with the handset (which should be uninstalled first)

A usb phone is really just a loudspeaker and mic that work on your usb connection, these can be bought on Ebay for under a tenner, usially work instantly with no software to install and will work with Skype, MSN, Yahoo voip etc. The Tesco product might be locked into the Tesco service.

Cledor, I have followed your advice, but no joy! Thanks anyway.
Buglawton, I have started wondering if you are indeed right that the phone is indeed locked to the software. Alternatively, it may be defective, and I shall try Tesco to refund me (unlikely) or exchange for another one.

Make sure the correct audio device is selected from the Messenger settings, it's probably on Win default but you need to select USB audio device for input and output.

'Sound and audio devices'>> audio/voice from control panel do not even have 'USB Audio Device' as one of the drop-down options available to select! Only the computer sound card is listed there.
