I've told the police (annonomously obviously) many times and they say they know but they won't do anything about it. I have very little faith in the police round here, seems like they can't be bothered to investigate crimes even when they're handed to them on a plate 😩

Might be worth contacting your local Police and Crime Commisioner to let them know about this dereliction of duty.

If you don't want a dispute on file when you move, then I'd say your only option is to move now.

Do you know what, if I thought this would work I'd try it in a minute. Unfortunately when it comes to neighbours, I really did pull the short straw. My other neighbours (whose house backs onto mine) are full on hard core drug dealers. There was a massive raid done on them last year (about 30 policemen stormed their house and garden) but nothing seemed to have come of it. People turn up to buy drugs every 10 minutes or so, I've told the police (annonomously obviously) many times and they say they know but they won't do anything about it. I have very little faith in the police round here, seems like they can't be bothered to investigate crimes even when they're handed to them on a plate 😩

In that case I'd be looking to move. Sharpish!

I understand exactly what you are going through, and how miserable it can make you.
I have had similar neighbours, and police who wont even turn up to their house as the man who lives there is well known for being violent to the police. They obviously drug deal, play music till 3.45am and just do not have ANY consideration for anyone.

I am saving up to move house. I cannot bear it any more.
  • Police have a duty to investigate every incident reported to them. It may be that the neighbours are informants and that's why nothing is done. I agree when there is a lot of noise phone the police and say that you think there's a fight and someone shouted "he's got a knife" that gets them round.

You can download a decibel meter on your phone to start keeping a log of noise levels.

Contact environmental health on Monday. You could always go down to the local police station and insist they investigate the antisocial behaviour.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Seriously??! Even if that were true it is not what happens in practice.

Hun, you are totally right . Don't " complain " to the police by phone( civilian s) go and speak at the police station about the effect on you. Don't give up..there is CLEARLY a big big problem here- I agree-you have to make people listen
  • Not sure what you thought the police would do in terms of the noise, it was 3.30pm when you posted this?? Arguably if this is everyday it must be annoying to say the least.

Unfortunately if the flat is rented you have no control over who moves in their next even if this person did end up getting evicted, arrested or whatever. .. Might be a bunch of boozy students next... Or a family with screaming kids at all hours...
An opinion is just that..... An opinion

I've lived in situations like this, in properties which were all privately owned. It is a horrendous experience. I'm all for contacting your local community police and council advisory body to look for ways of reducing the nuisance for the time being but what I did in every case (there were three) was to move on, away from the troublesome neighbours.

I've found that you get this in all walks of life. One of the worst problems I had was in one of the most expensive areas I lived in. Mortgages were easy to get at that time and we finished up with some very unsavoury types in the neighborhood who took advantage of "turn key" mortgage deals through the builder. Conversely one of the quietest places we lived in was an estate with a very bad reputation where we had to rent an apartment because our house was sold and we hadn't completed on our new property.

We've had our eyes opened to these potential problems and have become very wary as a result. Hence the desire on our part to live in a rural setting, as far away from neighbours as possible. It's not possible for us at the moment but that's our dream. Not that we're in any hurry to get away from our current home. Thankfully we're in a very quiet neighbourhood now.

OP there's no bad advice been given on this thread. Read it all and make your own decisions but don't put up with this disturbance in your life for a minute longer. Good luck to you.
  • You just have to keep calling the police every single day multiple times until they act. Every time you hear someone shouting call up to report a violent assault. Dial 999, it's an emergency and someone could be in danger. Every time they turn the music on report a disturbance. Keep doing it every hour or so and eventually you will either get lucky and the police will have nothing better to do right at that moment, or they will eventually send someone round just to stop you calling. Either way it will get someone there.

Unfortunately this is all you can do with the police. Keep hammering away at them until they do something. Remember to tell them in detail about how you feel like hanging yourself and can't take it any more.

Also get the council's noise abatement people in. Use this form to report them for energy theft (stealing electricity/gas): http://www.ukrpa.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=16&Itemid=108 That will get someone round quickly.
