Extended contract without knowledge
Our family have all come to the end of our phone contracts and we are all about to go GiffGaff to save money. But when my husband called to get his pat code he was told there was 6 months left as when Virgin had phoned in March to offer him a reduced tarriff this involved extending it. When they called and offered him a reduction because of his low usage, there was no word of an extended contract. He has never signed anything or agreed to any extension. Is there anything he can do?

I think you learned the lesson and in the future will insist on getting everything in writing or by a e-mail before agreeing to anything.
Now you can only follow their formal complaints procedure, then take the case to the ombudsman if needed. Demand the record of the phone call to be found that allegedly proofs that you agreed to the extension.
That said, it's very naive to think that your network can just offer you to pay less than you are paying. Why on earth would they do this unless they want to get something in return?0 -
Grumbler has pretty much nailed it. I don't know of a profitable business that pro-actively pays staff to rings people up with the intention of lowering their bill. There is always a reason for a call from a company that benefits the company. Our family have all come to the end of our phone contracts and we are all about to go GiffGaff to save money.
