I go to my local "old ladies" hairdresser, where I have a dry cut (long layers) which takes around 20 mins and costs me £17 plus tip.

DH goes to the local barbers where he has a haircut with the clippers, a hot towel on his face (to "open his pores" lol!), they trim his eyebrows, nasal hair and any other stray hairs, puff him with some perfumed stuff and he's in there for around half an hour. All for less than a tenner!

    Inequality indeed!

As an aside, our local chippy discriminates against me because of my age :(

They have a lunchtime OAP special - and refuse to offer me the deal when I go in!!

I don't see the point of hairdressers. I brush mine into a bunch and lop the ends off neatly when it gets scraggly.

I've never asked what they charge my husband (who does use a hairdresser). But he only goes about once every 6 months, so I suppose I can allow him an indulgence.

I suppose if I was inclined to sport a Mohican, I'd need assistance...
  • I agree that charges should be based on the service, and not the customer's gender. Just because certain hairstyles are more typical of one gender than the other doesn't mean gender should be the basis of pricing policy.

How many ladies get the offer I did?

Its not taking any time to do your hair now, so its only going to be three quid and you don't need to book an appointment.

I got my first set of clippers the very next day! :o

I am getting quite depressed as more and more places seem to be offering me these type of deals.

A couple of years back, I decided to see how long I could grown my hair. Just stopped going for haircuts. A longhaired pal recommended going longer on the conditioner, but also -cones (dimethycone etc) free. My hair's heading down my back, mum & I "cut" each others hair (trim the ends carefully) & the conditioners I choose turn out to be the cheaper ones.

You can only do that it's long enough to get into a bunch though.

My hair is usually worn in a bob, and takes a fair bit of skill to cut properly. There is no way I would attempt to cut my own hair!

I go to training salons or the local college. I got highlights and a cut and blow dry for 20 quid. Am happy enough with that. There's generally a cheaper alternative if you shop around. Prices vary a lot. I get a colour done every 3 months or so. No way would I cut my own hair. Also, prices for a cut and blow dry can be around 20 quid so the fact that I can get a colour done for the same price is a bargain. Tbh, I don't think that women's shampoos and conditioners will cost that much. None of the hairdressers around where I live are very up market. And you don't get hours of chat and cups of tea. You get the colour put on, left to develop while the hairdresser goes and cuts someone else's hair as a lot of hairdressers don't do appointments, they'll allow people to walk in and get their hair done there and then.

I don't spend tons of cash on beauty products or clothes. I don't mind spending 20 quid or so on a hair colour.

Well if as a bloke I went to a Ladies hairdresser then I would expect to get charged £20-£30, whilst if I went to a barber I get charged £6.50
It's the opposte where I am. The barber takes £6 and the local hairdresser does "gent's trim" for £5. As I used to give the barber £2 tip and only give the hairdresser £1, I am quids in!
