Sounds like she's a distance from the exchange. But she should try hassling the provider and see if she can maybe pay less for a downgraded package?!

The 'up to' speeds are really theoretical maxima for someone living above the exchange!

Even those are somewhat [STRIKE]optimistic[/STRIKE] misleading ! IIRC the max possible on an "up to 8" circuit is something like 7.28 mbps

Quick check on Samknows puts her at about 1.5 miles from the exchange.

I'm with Talk Talk. These are solutions I was told by Talk Talk Technical and I admit they work. Its the cheapest service around so when you pay peanuts you've got to accept monkey service.

The megs will phase up and down all the time. When its too slow just log out and log back in again later.

Your friend will probably also find the service keeps going off line. All she has to do then is pull the 3 wires out the back of the router, wait for at least 27 seconds and then plug them back in. The service will resume.

I have found most companies tend to slightly under estimate my speeds. Maybe just lucky and have good quality line.

But i am miles away from the exchange. 1.8miles as the crow flies but almost double in cable length.
I had a service number you could dial and it would tell you the cable length.

Supposed to be for engineers, But it leaked out. I think they have blocked it all now though.
