I've got a friend who has signed up with these and if id known before I would have told her not to. But she her router is only syncing up at around 3 and a half meg. A lot lest from what speed she was told she would get, as this is her first month is there a way she can get out of the contract as they are not fufilling there side of the contract

What did they say she would get ? Was it a specific range or the usual 'up to 8Mb' or 'up to 16Mb' ? The later two cases make no promises. It's like up to 50% off, which covers a reduction of just 1p.0

If 3.5MBps is all her line will support, then switching provider will not make any difference. As above, speeds are always quoted as 'up to'.
And no it won't allow her to void her contract without penalty. No free lunch, and no free laptop

it was between to speeds but she can only remeber the highest being 16mb. it was a brightspark engineer who installed it as she got the tv as well off them.0

Really need to carry out some internal tests and by pass internal wiring by testing direct from the master socket . Then ask the ISP to test their end .
Product sold would be something like .
1.How fast will my broadband be?
We'll give you the fastest broadband your phone line can handle. The top speed will depend on the quality of your phone line and where you live.0 -
Looking at the TalkTalk online forums and it appears that using the TV Box will significantly reduce download speed.
Your friend should sign up to TalkTalk's Community Forum and post the problem they are having. The online staff (although expect a few days wait) usually do their best to help rectify things.0 -
All you can do is manage your internal infrastructure between pc and mastersocket to reduce as much as possible, line losses, noise and crosstalk. After that ,,well its down to line length and other facts. You can make significant improvements if you know what to do. For example,is your adsl modem plugged directly into the mastersocket via a micro filter?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

I think there's confusion there.
If you are using the TV box, it will need 2-4Mb of bandwidth when in use.
If you have a 6Mb connection, then with the TV box not being used, you'll have 6Mb speed to your other devices.
The more devices you have connected to your internet connection, the less speed is available to each individual one, it doesn't matter what each device is. But a device does not "significantly reduce download speed". Your overall download speed doesn't change, but the speed to other devices will change.
Or, put it another way, if you have £6 in coins sitting in the kitchen, you take £2 of it and put it in the living room, you still have £6. It's just if you're in the kitchen all you can see is £4.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -

16MBps is the theoretical maximum, no -one actually gets it. What matters more is the minimum quoted. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Nope no confusion this end. I believe the problem occurs when the YouView box is connected the router resynchs at a slower profile (9 or 12dB profile) to improve stability for streaming therefore reducing the sync'd download speed. The OP could post router stats and if on a 12dB, then a request to one of the TalkTalk forum staff to try a 9db and then a 6db profile to test stability. If all well then they can deactivate DLM, which they did in my case.0
