Stop opening other people's bills, and return them marked 'not known at this address'.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Nope. These are addressed to 'The Occupier'. Never ignore anything addressed this way.Stop opening other people's bills, and return them marked 'not known at this address'.You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0 -

If the letters weren't opened, then the current owner would not have been aware that there is an outstanding balance owed by the previous owner.
I agree, you are the occupier and if the letters are addressed to the occupier, then letters should be opened by the current occupier; so there's nothing wrong with that.
Stressed-Over-Occupier: Remember to keep a copy of all letters that you write and send to the power company. Just in case you need them at a later date.0 -
But the OP is now well aware that these demands do not relate to his/her account, so they can safely be returned unopened.
We don't even know if nPower is the current supplier. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Some of you are getting bills that have nothign to do with you and I am still waiting for my bill.
Something is screwed up in Npower I dare say.0 -

Opened up the first letters, then Npower asked me to send them back with Return to Sender. My account is with them and its different account number than previous one.
Waiting for a new letter to come that I can send back with that cover letter. If they don't come I win, if they do... I get to send that letter and keep a copy of course. Anyway, no longer worried about these now as most feedback from you guys is "chill and not your problem". But I will keep monitoring this. Would be much easir if I can email all this to npower rather than letter to a PO BOX. At least I have some confidence it arrived.0 -
I reckon e-mails, texts and ordinary letters just get lost in the noise
If you want to make sure that it gets there and to concentrate their minds a bit you could send it recorded delivery. It would cost a bit more but as they have to sign to confirm receipt it should get treated separately from the tons of stuff that they get every day.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

They have had contact with the previous tenant, but did not think to ask where they were going or to remind them that the final bill would need paying.
Just not good enough nPower. Your systems need modifying - the letters should be addressed to the actual name of the previous tenant IMO as that is with whom the debt lies (better still - not sent at all).
It is possible debt collection agencies will catch up with the previous occupier eventually.
As the OP is with nPower I would make a formal complaint and ask for £50 for the distress and inconvenience casued, as well as the letters to stop. Then push it to the Energy Ombudsman if necessary after 8 weeks.0 -
These things can be a bit of a pain but can be ignored. I've got a water bill envelope here to the previous tenant which has an "Or Occupier" printed above the address window. An RTS and No Forwarding Address scribble and a comment to the effect that they KNOW who the current occupier is (i.e. me)! Any more will just go in the bin...
Not one of life's major worries.0 -
You're not liable so just ignore it. It's nothing to worry about.0
