BT Line Rental Price Hike

Hi,

I just had the email through from BT telling me that they are going to increase my line rental in January.

From what I understand (please correct me if im wrong) then I have 10days from today to cancel with no penalty?

I have BT Infinity 2 and have found that its not all that its cracked up to be, rather pricey as well. Now that has an 18month contract (about half way through).

Do I have the right to cancel the broadband as well, I know that there is no change to the price off the back of the change to the line rental?

thanks for any info.

Jon

If your line rental is increasing, or the terms of the contract change, then you're within your right to cancel without penalty if you give notice within 10 days.

I only saw my notice of the price increase from BT tonight, sent by email 22 October, so have been checking the notice/t&c's (should add that I'm opposed to the price increases on principle and not necessarily because I'd be better off financially!). Personally, I think I can cancel the line rental element on the basis of the price increase. It reads like the broadband price I'll be charged won't increase, but the terms relating to the original broadband contract are changing (they're increasing the charges if I cancel early). Any change by BT in the cancellation charge alone for your broadband is enough to cancel your broadband, if that's what you want to do. I'd agree it's not worth talking to BT Customer Services, your notice should go to their executive office (although send your notice by any means if it means meeting the 10 day timescale - that's what I resorted to!)
