Are the advents worth it?

I do love the Advents - I make sure I am organised though and I only enter to win the prizes I really want! One thing that pees me off about them though is if you don't receive your prize till February/March! I won a Christmas Cake and a lovely table decoration in December last year and they both didn't arrive until the middle of February - so by then I was sick of looking at Christmas cake and the table decoration had to be put away until this December!:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0

It depends how you look at it. I've had 2 very small wins in 2 years of doing hundreds, but it is already part of the build up to Christmas for me. I will be doing as many as I can again, and I prefer to think that almost no wins for 2 years means I'm due a big win this year (in the full knowledge that there is no truth in that whatsoever!)
My only tip is that one of my wins came from an Advent that I think that a lot of people gave up early on because it was a bit fiddly. It might be worth trying to spot the less popular ones if you can.
I would also guess (on the basis of no evidence whatsoever) that there is a pretty steep fall off in entrants as we get closer to Christmas as people get fed up with not winning and have more real-life Christmas stuff to do. As always with comping, perseverance is a good thing.0 -
I began in feb this year so this will be my first advent.....are they all facebook/twitter/rafflecopter? I don't do any of these kinds of comps so I hope don't miss out too much:money::rotfl::T0

There are plenty of web based advents so don't worry.
This will be my first year trying to do some FB and TW advents as well. Need to do some more work on that time machine...0 -

Thank you. I don't use twitter and I don't understand Rafflecopter, I cant do FB as my work computer doesn't allow we to enter in on most of them and I don't fancy flooding my friends newsfeed with stuff!
I will do the web based ones though for sure.
Good luck all!:money::rotfl::T0 -
December was my 3rd most successful month last year so I'll be doing it all again this year (something has to improve my winnings for 2013).
I've found the easiest way to organise myself is to divide the various advents into folders of bookmarks in my browser (A-M, N-Z, Facebook) with links to the MSE post if theres a question involved or direct to the advent page if not, then I right click on each folder and open in tabs (on firefox) then plough through each page.
I'll be more careful of what I enter this year though as last year I won a trip away I couldn't use (no flights which I hadn't noticed).0 -
I did the advents last year for the first time and it was a waste of my time and effort, spent 14 hours a day for the first 22 days of dec and won £250.
I was happy enough but i shant be wasting so much time this year.
I would say unless you have no shame avoid alot of the fb ones,as theres a hardcore of compers who will enter every single comp going regardless of the prizes, and alot more cheating dupe accs seem to appear.
Im sure some people (honest people) do well - but is it really worth spoiling your xmas to comp all day, enjoy xmas, and do a few extra but dont let it take over your life..
Other wise you'll end up being one of these saddos who WILL post on MSE, something like:- oh im sick of the advents/its such hard work!!!!!!
If you dont like it dont moan and just dont do them.
(my advice is to pick say 20 or 30 that you could really fancy winning and stick to them, i mean who the hell wants a pen or a mug!))Still comping, after 2 heart attacks 4th feb & 6th feb, and a stent put in.. 45 years old only:eek:0 -
I enjoy doing them maybe as my 1st ever win was an advent one, but I don't go all out do the ones for prizes I would use etc0

this reminds me - I won a pringles speaker last year and it never turned up. Get the impression I'm not missing out though...Life is too short to let people get you down :j0

Ah sorry 'doovayduck' has reminded me, I also won 2 pringles speakers.
So 14 hours time 22 days = 308 hours.
Prizes £250 & 2speakers (£10) total £260.
Would have been better doing a temporary job over xmas insteadStill comping, after 2 heart attacks 4th feb & 6th feb, and a stent put in.. 45 years old only:eek:0
