I have never won on the Advents up to last Christmas where I won £250 & a Sony comp

So for me I will be entering again this year.

You have to be in it to win it

    No.

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Very subtle - like it :D

    Are they worth it?

As a financial investment of your time: huge probability, not.

For fun, excitement and pure pleasure: Probably yes - as long as it IS a pleasure and not a chore.

In my first year of comping I won a fabulous advent prize: An M&S & Microsoft hamper. Packed with fabulous M&S goodies that made our Christmas special. I sold the Microsoft goodies and made £400 :p

I've won some really nice advents - and then there was the Pringles Speaker - won't go into that one.

So overall, is it worth it? For me, abso-flamin-lutely. As for Our Yorkshire Lass - perhaps we should ask her that one in January :D

Last year was the first year of advents for me and I'd say I entered a reasonable amount of them. Was it worth it? Well I won a £4 shampoo all of December and that was from the Stella giveaway where they were giving away hundreds of prizes. I remember been quite disappointed but that's just the way comping is.

Ever the optimist I'm going for you never know and it means there are many more comps to enter so more chances to win.

The one thing I wish I'd known last year is how quiet the boards are between Christmas and New Year (seriously tumble weed time) [In fact thinking back I'd been an end date comper until after Christmas when I managed to catch up with the entire board before new year]

Armed with this knowledge in December I'm going to do the advents and any comps ending in December and then catch up with the rest once the advents are done with.

I enjoy the Advents but I only ever enter to win prizes I really like or are worth it.

I thought the quality of prizes had decreased last year because I wasn't entering as many. I also noticed that many of the prizes throughout the Advent Calendars were just special offers or a discount voucher - which don't really interest me! During my first year of comping, I entered nearly every Advent going and although I did win a few prizes, they were nothing big and I ended up regretting spending so much time on my laptop on the run up to Christmas.

Winning at any time of year, in my opinion, is merely down to luck. And with reference to the Advents - one comper could enter almost every Advent going and not win a thing and another comper could enter just a few selected Advents and win the star prize. Just like any time of the year!
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea

I look at Advents the same way I look at any comp at any time of the year: you've got to be in it to win it, and you can't EXPECT to win. I found last year I invested a huge amount of time and effort into it, only to come away with a Pringles speaker. BUT I had loads of fun doing them and I'll probably spend just as much time on them this year because as always, there's that chance that I might win something!
  • I also tend to do the advents for what I want. The first year I ddint win anything but I have had a 7ft real christmas tree and some baulbles, A wreath with fresh greenery, A necklace worh £100,A fabulous build a bear to name a few I have had more luck in the last couple of years and I love the Haggis Hunt,I have never won from it but its fun looking.
I think just like other competitions just do the ones you want to do and dont stress too much if you miss the odd day.
    Enjoy

I have to admit, some are fun to enter, The Jean Paul Gaultier one last year was hilarious.

From a time spent doing them versus prizes won probably not even though I did have a couple of big wins last year.

From a fun build up to Christmas I actually enjoy the daily ones. I did miss the Reindeer one last year (it wasn't running).

The board does get a bit mad with people posting wins on threads (pringles), the answers being posted multiple times (Edinburgh Castle really are you sure?) and the wrong answer getting posted after the right answer (Ecco shoes).

My new medication will help with all that this year and my counselor is fairly sure I'll be out of therapy in time for this years advents...
