Did you make it clear that you were giving extra notice and don't wish to leave while still in contract ... and was it a UK call centre you dealt with? Some of the online chat is foreign, as I found when a man asked if he could answer me some questions (meant ask).

There is a restriction on Sky's computer system, I believe, that prevents the agents from processing a cancellation date more than 40 days in advance.

Thus, you should be able to give the notice successfully, in a couple of days time.

Send your cancellation notice in writing by Recorded Delivery. Be sure to include your full name, address and all contract details and tell them not to phone you.

How far in advance were you giving notice HoolyNI?

The Sky TV terms & conditions refer to giving "at least 31 days notice at any time." Per my earlier post above, I believe there's a restriction that prevents the agents from processing a downgrade/cancellation date more than 40 days in advance.

So, in practice you can give a minimum of 31 days notice and a maximum of 40, which I guess is reasonably flexible/practical.

Am under the 40, day 34, just a money making ruse, kept me waiting 24 minutes because of a "glitch in the computer"...
  • Additionally to above, cancel by email and put a delivery and read receipt on the email.
  • Yes it is in their terms and conditions they will get every extra day out of you that they can. It has always been 31 days any time I have cancelled.

Next time use saynoto0870.com to get a local rate number instead.

Social media, including their own forum and Twitter where they have a presence, is littered with complaints about cancellation practices at Sky- refusal to respect the cancellation methods/rights stated in the terms & conditions, cancellation notices not processed, long telephone delays, "computer glitches", "dropped calls" etc.

As a consumer/Sky customer, I'm more concerned that they don't overcharge me or others as a consequence, but nevertheless also believe that it's counter-productive to the business to provide such poor cancellation experiences.

With the volume of products/services Sky offer through the Sky and Now TV brands, there's every chance that people would continue to buy Sky products/services in the future if their choices are respected and efficiently processed when downgrading or cancelling a service.
