Suggestions for a new TV please

I'm thinking of upgrading my over 7 year old Panasonic TX32LXD60 at some point in the near future, however after having a look around, I just ended up with a massive headache from the gazillion models available and no better idea of what I'd like to spend my money on :rotfl:
So I'd like you knowledgeable people to throw some suggestions in the ring. The idea is that I'll keep an eye on a shortlist of models and see if any of them end up being on special offer before Xmas or in the Sales.
- Up to £750
- LED (backlit or edge lit - no preference really), preferably 40" could go to 42" but I really don't want larger than that
- Not bothered about 3D, Smart would be nice but it's not a deal breaker - I'd rather pay for a dumb TV with a very good screen rather than all the bells & whistles. Though I guess most decent TVs are now Smart anyway
- At the very least 3 HDMI ports, the more the merrier
- I watch a fair bit of sport (mostly motorsport and bobsleigh) so I need something that can cope well with fast movement, otherwise it won't be great when I'm in front of the box for 24h for Daytona or Le Mans; I don't do any gaming.
- Planning on keeping it probably for 7-8 years
That's all I can think of for now, if you feel I've missed anything please ask :rotfl:

Yeah, worth to remember TVs look very similiar and the brand labels itself may cost more as I was told some products inside TVs come from same factory.
Secondly if you consider get one at high-budget, reasonable to presume it will last for a long time but shame technology change very fast at the present and you may disheart about blow lot of money on the TV which consider as out of date in later time in few years (sometime in several months Ouch!) also price drop big, unless that's what you want do it for today and not care about tomorrow etc:cool:
It's not the same as in 1980-2000s we usually keep tech product for a long time, not at the moment.
John Lewis may worth to consider as they cover TVs with 5 years warrent for peace of mind, I think M&S do that as well so good to shopping around. GL:)
Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey.... :A0 -
Just buy another Panasonic?0

Well I'm kind of getting somewhere in term of narrowing things down
so I currently have 2 Panasonic, 1 LG and maybe a Sony on my list.
And yeah, I know about who gets their panels from whom and all the restJL would indeed be my preferred place to order from because of their 5 years guarantee but it will depend on what is on special offer where (if any, that is)
I don't really care about it becoming out of date. I'm just going for a good panel which I can tweak to my taste. My current TV was chosen along those lines too and it has served me well. It's still got a better picture that some of the TVs I've seen out there but I've also seen some good stuff too.Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
Lots of good news for you - firstly, you don't need to spend anywhere near £750 on a good 42" TV, especially since you're not too bothered about features.
Without researching it insanely, I can't see anything wrong with this:

This one is indeed on my list
but it does struggle a bit with motion at times. I'm leaning more towards the TX-L42ET61B/ TX-L42ET60B (same stuff, but the 61 is a JL exclusive with a different stand)

The one I suggested? I've no idea how it deals with motion, but the first thing to do is turn off any motion/smoothing gimmiks, to find out how it REALLY deals with motion.0

Yeah, I know that all the gimmicky stuff needs to be turned off. I went and had a play in JL, they kindly handed the remotes over to me
Given my budget there's always going to be a compromise somewhere but the more I think about it, the more I'm leaning towards that ET60/61.
Richer Sounds have the ET60 at £600 with free 5 year warranty too (collect from store only) and JL have the ET61 at £650 on their website. The stand of the ET61 JL "exclusive" is the nicer v-shaped metal one. That also makes these two cheaper than the LG or the Sony and well within budget.
Now if I had £7K to spend, I would grab one of those Samsung S9C OLED which is simply stunning... maybe in 7 years time for my next TV when the price of the OLED TVs will have (hopefully) come down to more reasonable levels :rotfl:Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
