Haha my Ash stands in the kitchen yowling till I go and prepare breakfast!
Is Gizmo just on NI now or does he have access to other food?
I'll be finishing off the first tub of Lamb and Chicken for their dinner tonight.
They're getting 50g each in the morning and the same again in the evening but I noticed the little one (Harriet) eating some of the dry food about 30 mins after breakfast this morning, so not sure if I need to up their NI. Harriet is just over 1kg and Ash is 2kg.
I went for the Game, Lamb & Chicken and Chicken & Beef. I wasn't sure about the Venison as Ash turns his nose up at beef steak so didn't want to risk it going uneaten.I have a simple philosophy:
Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. Scratch where it itches.

There is always dry food available for Salem who won't touch any type of meat but Gizmo has never bothered with dry so is completely raw fed.
It could be Harriet may need more raw or an extra meal. How old are they?
I bought the venison but it was a complete waste as he's not interested in it at all and will only eat it under protest. I did notice it is rather drier than the others so did try adding a little warm water but he still protested. I'm going to try him on the game bird at the weeked when I am there all day to see how it goes but I think his main diet will be the two chicken varieties.0 -
Harriet is 3.5months old and Ash is 4.5months old. She is tiny though.
I'm leaving out 50g of Eden dry for them throughout the day just incase they feel peckish.
Would cats eat Deer in the wild? Probably more like bird/chicken.
I tried the Game this morning and Ash gobbled it up but Harriet wasn't too sure about it but did finish it in the end. Just not as quickly as the Lamb and chicken variety.I have a simple philosophy:
Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. Scratch where it itches.

Aww, what I wouldn't give to have my two back to little furry balls of craziness.
I've defrosted some game for Gizmo's tea, looking forward to seeing his reaction.
I have seen some flavours of meat and thought "really, since when would a cat eat a moose" followed by some giggling as I imagine one of ours trying to catch one lol
Salem keeps sniffing the boxes of food when I get them out to feed Gizmo but he's never been interested once they're open and he can have a proper sniff.0 -
Lisajane8482, your Gizmo is gorgeous!
I managed to find one tub of Nutriment at a local pet shop, buried under the Natural Instinct. Apparently all the Nutriment sold very quickly, and they are waiting for more.
It was the salmon variety, and because I didn't want to feed them the whole 250 grams in one lot, I followed your suggestion and semi defrosted it and divided it into four and refroze three portions. It was a big hit! They have cooked fish about three times a week so I know they are fish fans and I am glad that they can have some raw oily fish. I have pondered in the past on giving them raw pollack because it is cheap and as far as my research indicates, it has no thiaminase and is safe to give raw. Does anyone feed raw pollack?
Anyway, I am waiting to try the other varieties of Nutriment when they restock.
I also purchased a box of Natures Menu. I like the fact you can defrost a few chunks at a time, but my two wouldn't touch it whatsoever. They wouldn't even taste it. I will try it again in a few weeks.
I have ordered 8 kilos of Honey's for delivery next week (I'm a bit worried about freezer space, I only have a small freezer. Hope it fits in!). It is expensive - the beef and lamb are £5.75 a kilo and the chicken, duck and turkey are £6.75 a kilo. However Honey's is still by far and away the kittens favourites - they lick the plate clean - and I do want to make sure that I am not feeding them just one brand or just one or two types of meat. Of course, now that I have ordered 8 kilos they will almost certainly go off it completely..!
I have also started giving them a raw egg each occasionally.0 -
Thanks Haffiana, don't be fooled by his angelic looks he can be a right little so and so when he wants to be.
Gizmo turned his nose up at the wild game bird. He looked at me as if to say "you expect me to eat that!!!".
I've decided I am going to stick to NI as he loves it and have just placed my next order. I have ordered the chicken varieties, and one lot of the chrismas dinner (turkey and the trimmings) they are doing.
At the moment he is eating chicken and beef with some venison mixed in as we are now using the last of the chicken up. He seem to like it so I will use the last box of the venison this way. I did try it with the game bird but he wasn't fooled.
He has now found his new way of letting me know when he's hungry by following me into the kitchen, closing the kitchen door over and sitting staring at the fridge like he is trying to open it by mind control. I think he closes the door over as the fridge is behind it and when we go in the fridge we have to close it over. He seems to be keeping at a consistent weight which is good.0 -
I have been feeding RAW food for 10 years now. Until recently I was feeding raw rabbit which I got from an independent game dealer. However about 2 weeks ago they put their prices up by 25% after a 20% hike earlier this spring. They now charge £1.50/lb (£3.30/kilo). I have researched into buying other raw foods.
I have found Albion minced lamb which you can buy from Raw2paw of Weston-Super-Mare at 75p/lb (£1.65/kilo) and Canine Meals of Wheels of Essex for £1.15/lb (£2.53/kilo). Both these deliver - Raw2paw cost £4.50 during December if you live in their range or if you don't they will deliver using a courier costing £10.95. Canine Meals on Wheels cost £7.00 and deliver to London, Kent etc. You can also buy Albion minced lamb from them directly but you have to buy a minimum of 96lb at a time but it does work out at only 63p/lb (£1.39/kilo) with a delivery charge of £3.58.
I have also found that Raw2paw and Davids Doggie Dinners of Sittingbourne (who also deliver for £7and free locally) do DAF heart (beef, lamb & pork) which mine love costing 85p/lb and 75p/lb respectively.
There are other places and other foods which I haven't tried but these seem well priced and good quality products which my cats eat.
Happy savvy shopping :T0
