He looks almost exactly like our cat size wise and he has two pouches and biscuits. What a greedy guts, really jealous of his metabolism! :D

Today I tried Gizmo on the Chicken and Lamb and it was a success :j. He did wake me up during the night for food but I guess it’s just trying to establish the right amount for his daily needs.

Today is his first full day on a completely raw diet :T. I have divided the tub up into 100g meals, the 5th lot I divided into 5 so if he needs a little more I can defrost 20g quickly. I’m thinking he’ll probably be at the top end of the recommended daily amount (120g) or slightly over. I’m defrosting a chicken wing for him as a treat which should be ready when I get home.

I know what you mean I wish I could eat like that and stay slim, he’s a gannet. He’s never been a fan of biscuits where as Salem will not touch anything but biscuits. He’s not even interested in raw or cooked meats/fish :(

I cannot believe the amount of money I’ll be saving. I’ve worked out if I buy 2 month’s worth of raw at a time I’ll be spending less than what I would on a month’s worth of pouches. It’s crazy that by feeding him better food I have more than halved my yearly food bill for him.

Thank you tea lover. He has the face of an angel even though he is a little devil.
  • Wow, this is great news! Mine love the NI too, and I was amazed how little they bugged me between meals - I've started to consider commercial wet food to be junk food as a result. Appetising, but doesn't fill them up for long, nor is it nutritionally adequate. The litter box was a great bonus too :D. I've stopped feeding it recently because so much was going to waste (one cat is too sick to eat it), so I was wondering, how do you portion it out before it defrosts? Do you just use a knife or something else?
  • I leave a 500g pack in the fridge for a few hours and then cut it into 5 pieces. I cut the fifth piece into 4 just in case he needs a little more. I then stick the meals into containers and put it back in the freezer and defrost a meal each day (paddypaws gave me this advice).

NI website says "Can Natural Instinct be re-frozen?
Your Natural Instinct order should arrive still frozen. If however it has partially defrosted by the time you are ready to put it in the freezer, you can refreeze it safely. BUT if it has reached room temperature it will still keep fresh in a fridge for up to three or four days, just like you would keep food purchased from a supermarket."

I've been trying to work out the cheapest way to feed a high quality diet to my two (currently on pets at home purely pouches and Eden) and after reading this thread I've decided to give RAW feeding a go and I've just ordered a box of Natural Instinct :D

Think H will love it, she mops up raw chicken and beef etc but Ash I'm not so sure about as he just sniffs any meat I put down and walks away :s

Yesterday Gizmo tried the Venison, it didn’t really go down well, he ate it reluctantly. So he favours the chicken varieties. There’s just the wild game bird left for him to try which I'll give a go at the weekend.

He's been completely raw fed for 5 days and his poos no longer smell, are a lot firmer than before and he's only going once a day rather than several times.

He will only eat half a chicken wing now and favours his food over the chicken wing. Not sure if this is because he’s full/prefers the raw food or if he’s not as keen on these chicken wings as I bought them from a different butchers and they don’t look as meaty. I still have a couple of the first lot left so will defrost one of them and see what happens.

I have worked out that around 125g seems to be the amount he’ll eat. So I’m now just chopping the 500g blocks into 4. I’m feeding him twice a day, half when I get up around 6:45am and the other half around 6:30pm when we have our tea. Before he was getting fed at 6:45am, 6pm, 10pm and 3-4am and sometimes in between his morning and evening meal.

Salem hasn’t shown any interest whatsoever in the raw food and is happy chomping on his kibble but he’s never been interested in wet food or any raw/cooked chicken/beef etc. I think hell will freeze over before he eats any type of meat (pouch or raw).
  • LisaJane - thank you so much for this thread! If it wasn't for your updates on Natural Instinct I'd never have taken the plunge! After just 3 days on their new diet I'm having to scoop the tray less frequently and they have stopped pestering me at dinner time, so I finally get to eat in peace!

They seem to have so much more energy now as well.

  • Aww thank you, I'm glad it has helped someone.

It's brilliant being able to sit down without Gizmo hovering and tapping my legs for some food and then jumping up on the table and trying to pinch some.

He now tells me when he's hungry by standing over his mat where he has his food and calling me. Yesterday he ate approx 150-160g which is around 4% of his body weight but he is a really active cat so I may need to feed him slightly more some days.

Which Flavours have you tried Angelicdevil?
