Re smelly poo. My elderly cat had very smelly loose poo. It turned out it was IBS and quite treatable. Might be worth mentioning to your vet.0

It's been a while but it's not been as easy as we hoped changing her to new food! Purely from Pets at Home was met with a look of complete horror, as was James Wellbeloved. That was despite mixing everything in, trying to introduce slowly etc. She went back onto the Felix for a bit while I sent off for various free samples of decent wet food. However at the weekend we were in Tesco and they've now added a range of foods called Feline Fayre to their shelves, which is 60% tuna.... and she loves it! I think we have a winner
Plus she doesn't have such smelly poo!

my fussy Giz would only eat Whiskers pouches but he took to butchers Classic with no problem.Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!DFW Long Hauler Supporter No 1500

Hi Bluebell,
The advice I'm about to give is coming from the experience of an exasperated cat owner who has 3 cats with various health problems including IBD!
When winter and old age hit my cats, they all started to 'go' inside, and boy, was it nasty!! I hate litter trays, and with three cats it was horrific. I always rather thought that their wet food smelled exactly like whatever came out of the other end anywayso when I switched to raw food, I was pleasantly surprised. The meat doesn't really smell, and the poos are tiny, infrequent and practically odour free! I'm not exaggerating at all. Additionally, cats eat less of the raw food than they do of the wet stuff, requiring only 2-3% of their body weight in a day of the stuff, and it keeps them fuller for longer, so it tends to work out cheaper than buying felix and co. The only problem that you may have (other than trying to get her to eat raw if she's not accustomed to it) is with constipation, and you can remedy that with some fish oil, or mixing in some Felix. I'm only mentioning the constipation because I know that someone will eventually, but I have never had a problem with it because mine all went no.2 just fine.
It's also pretty easy to feed raw, you can buy it ready made and frozen (I buy Natural instinct, the chicken and beef flavour is a big hit with most cats that I've heard eat NI) or you can make it yourself using a recipe found online which I can link you to (it has been tried and tested) or you can buy this supplement called Felini and forget about the recipe as it's all already in there. Please give raw a try, even if it's only for a few days - you'll see the difference yourself, even if you only mix small amounts into the Felix.
You could also try one of the foods mentioned that has a higher protein content (Bozita is a highly recommended one) and I see that you've already done that, and I'm glad that it's helping (won't be as good as the raw, though). Wish you all the best, and hope that you update us all!

Raw feeding is best but alot of faff.
I feed mine Butchers Classic & Burns dried (the burns is extra healthy & so the cats weren't enthusiastic after a 50% diet of Go-Cat so I hand fed them so they thought the kibbles were treats until they got used to it).
Currently am feeding wet from Zooplus when I make orders of litter. Animonda Carni - excellent stuff - smells more like human pies!
feeding better quality food, apart from less stink in the trays - you will notice much less of it too = win, win as there are no fillers!0 -
my cat is very fussy and has a 'delicate' tummy. He is fine with Sheba tray food in Sauce, or Terrine - but I have to avoid anything in Gravy. and Fish - he cant digest Fish. He also likes the Sheba Sachet foods, and Gourmet Perle. and Applaws chicken in stock or Chicken and Cheese is really good too. he gets these for his supper - the rest of the time he has PAH dried cat food - I know, I know, its really cheap - but its what he is used to and likes and suits his digestion. I am not going to change what suits him just because I can then sniffily announce 'Oh WE only feed Iamms or Royal Caninng', its expensive but only the best for OUR cats'!
oh and small, dry, non-smelly poos are NOT an indication of good health in a cat.
while I am thinking about it - I am nearly sixty and for most of those years ALL cats were fed on 'tinned' food. Felix and Whiskas being the most expensive. and it was not uncommon to see 15 year old cats or 16, 17, 18,19. They certainly were not considered 'senior' at 7 years old!0 -
I too have a stinky minky! She was not smelly on Whiskers pouches but we have changed her to Purina as she eats ALL of the pouch and seems to enjoy it more too but, my word she makes stinky poops! _pale_
I just have to be quick and right behind her when she uses her box so I can clean it away immediately, seriously it makes my eyes water!! I swear she could strip paint, which is not good for a pretty princess!!:rotfl:Saving 1 animal wont change the world - but it will change the world for that 1 animal

the better the food - the less the stink - simples. 99% of supermarket pet food is expensive rubbish - stuffed full of chemicals & fillers - this is what produces the smells & sheer volume of waste. I spend less on food & more on litter & cats are very healthy. one is a bit constipated because she is lazy & has v long fur - she refuses to go out & play - I offset this by using the furminator & growing cat grass & cat mint for them to nibble on. Also giving a fish oil supplement (human from the 99p shop daily).0

You need to try and get your cat some better food, I would personally recommend Whiskas and Bozita Cat Chunks0
-
Yes, of course it can due to diet that you are providing. I think you should start giving your cat some better food and I think giving raw food and bozita cat chunks may be good. Instead of it if your cat smell then you should go to your vet for advice.0
