Where to find some cats/kittens?

Totally agree with moggymutt. Plus most rescues will have vaccinated, wormed, neutered and health checked the kittens. And should the worst happen and you need to rehome them, the centre would take them back.
Although some of the rules that rescues have might seem harsh, they are doing what's best for the cats, matching the right cats with the right homes. Rescues see all the heartbreaking stories and pick up the pieces when the 'free to good home cats' are abandoned.0 -
Most towns have a local pet facebook page.
When my Mum decided to get a kitten she went to see the local fishmonger as she reckoned anyone with cats might ask for scraps ....she was right-he sent us down to the florists who had a stray who had given birth in the shop's outbuildings.
A shelter might be a bit picky with you as you have lost two on the road AND have an under five TBH. (CPL turned me down because my son had mild autism but apparently that was that particular home checkers own prejudices rather than a CPL rule. )I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
I know you say that you are now in a quieter area....but I am sure you never want to go through the agony of losing another cat on the road.
There are lots of ways of cat proofing gardens....some complete kits you buy, companies that install or even easy DIY versions.0 -
I'm a long-time MSE lurker but your post, Lemoncurd, has prompted me into action!
I don't suppose you'd be interested in taking on an indoor cat? I've been trying to rehome one of my beloved pets for a little while now without success. She's six years old, black and white, very friendly and sociable, and I'd have no qualms about her living with a child. PaddyPaws can probably confirm that I am legitimate poster, despite being new, as I recognise her username and picture from the Pet Forums website, on which I go by the name "Brokenheartedbumpkin": broken-hearted in reference to the fact I have to part with my little girl, and bumpkin on account of the fact I live in Norfolk. I'm not sure where you are but if you were interested, I'm sure we could sort something out transport wise.
My girl is in good health and would probably adapt to an indoor/outdoor lifestyle, but she has always lived indoors and if you wanted to continue this (to minimise the risks of losing another pet on the road), she would be absolutely fine. She's spayed, vaccinated and up to date with her flea and worming treatments, and if it weren't for the fact that she seems to have fallen out with one of my other cats then she would be with me until the day she died. I'm not a backstreet breeder or anything dubious like that: all of my cats are from rescue except the cat in question - whose name is Soda, by the way - who came to me from a friend whose other friend was forced to leave the UK after failing to renew their visa. Soda was less than a year old when this happened, so I've had her for five happy years.
If you're at all interested, do get in touch. I can provide pictures if you'd like to see but, being new here, that's something I've not yet figured out how to do.0 -
Sorry for not coming back to this thread sooner, thanks for all the ideas and advice.
Have made a few enquiries but not found any suitable cats yet.
Hope you find a good home for Soda soon, Norfolkite, we are prob a bit too far south and were really hoping to get a pair of cats to keep each other company.0 -
Hi Lemoncurd
Having five cats, I would be happy to rehome Soda with a companion (one of her kittens, in fact, as she was pregnant when she came to me). I don't mind where in the UK you are based, my family are all in Hampshire so I travel down south quite a lot.
Anyway, I'm not trying to persuade you(!), I'm just saying that distance is not a problem for me and I do have two cats if you are interested. :-)
Good luck in your search, either way!0
