National Black Cat Day.

Today is national Black Cat Day. Cat charities say that black cats take nearly twice as long to rehome as other colours.

If YOU are thinking of adopting a cat why not consider a black or a black and white one.

Eighteen months ago we adopted a black cat from Cat Protection. She was a stray and had been found with a hook in a rear leg. She had to have the leg amputated. She settled in with us quickly and manages very well on her 3 legs.

She spends quite a lot of the daylight hours outside in our garden and the surrounding area. She is now lying next to my laptop as I type this thread.

She is a lap cat, a wonderful animal, and we love her to bits.

We have two black cats and they are both the most loving and funny cats. They turned me from being a dog person who didn't really like cats to a complete cat lover.
  • I really don't get why black and B&W cats find it hard to find homes .....

I love them (all cats TBH but .....) every single one I've had (and I think known in fact) has been an absolute darling - very loving and affectionate (if with some little errr foibles thrown in!)

Honestly can't see me ever having anything else in the future

First Cat was a British Black and White Shorthair (posh name for 'moggy)! he could be a complete sod one minute and a delight the next! The vets nurse hated him with a passion - until he had to stay a few days with them - lol, he completely won her over and she was his number one fan from then on!
they are delightfully contrary and have intriguing character traits (in other words you never know what to expect next). they are adaptable - mine went from outdoor cat to indoor cat overnight after the er unfortunate incident which led to vet stay. without complaint and he actually seemed to enjoy it!

So yesterday was National Black Cat day? May explain why my old, black moggy was acting like he was royalty all yesterday :rotfl:I woke up in the middle of the night to find him sat on my chest staring down at me and purring very loudly, freaked me out at first:eek:

He's a stray who followed my first cat, Freddie, home about 9 years ago, believed to have been left behind when a landlord of a local pub did a moonlight flit. Freddie sadly is long gone but Blackie (an unoriginal name I know) is still going strong despite a few missing teeth, bad breath and a few greying hairs.
  • Adopted my black cat 12 months ago, she has the occasional spat with the older moggy.

There is a mutual adoration between DD and cat. Now that the cat is over 2 she is beginning to become a lap cat, loves to curl up in bed next to me too.

Her favourite game is to sit at the bottom of the stairs and to grab your leg with her paws as you pass by.

When I deciding on a cat to adopt last year, I decided on a black or Black & White after reading it was harder for them to find homes.

The only visible colour on my cat is her eyes.
Proud to be dealing with my debts

My B&W cat is gorgeous. I might be a bit biased.... but I'm pretty sure he's the best cat ever :)

  • We've had 3 black and white cats in the past and have one now . I don't understand why they aren't popular . Cousin volunteers at an animal shelter and she says there are a lot of b & w cats there at present .

Our cat used to be a stray and recently decided to move in with us and he is a black longhair. I think he is beautiful, even when he is leaving clumps of his hair all round the house!

  • You can probably guess that I have two black cats, both rescue cats, both wonderful characters and never a day goes by when they don't make us smile and give us their love and affection! Black cats are fantastic.
