Do auctions not work on ebay anymore ? No sales from auctions.

Is anyone else having absolutely no lock selling things via auction on ebay ? Auctions used to do really well but not any more. I've had around 10 items listed on auction which haven't sold. I re-listed them all at a higher price on buy it now - all sold within days. So strange, it seems like auctions have been turned off on ebay.

Strange. I go for auctions more than BIN listings (perhaps because of the type of items I buy though and the fact I'm always hoping for a bargain lol).

I haven't had much luck selling through auctions aside from some collectable items. I figured it was most likely due to my postage costs though as I'm selling some items that cost quite a bit to send but probably aren't worth the cost to most. But perhaps less people are going for auctions now. People want things right away rather than waiting for things to end.
  • 2 auction sales in 60 days.... shocking... and only 2 in the 60 days previous to that, so that is a grand total of four in four months, it has never been like this before and I have been on there since 2004 xx

They aren't as easy to sell in as they used to be but still do ok for me. I generally use them as an ad for fixed price items. We usually get a spike in fixed price sales as auctions are ending.

I'd say they are on the decline but it's a slow one. It's interesting that any new rivals that set up tend to follow the fixed price model and not auctions.

I find the opposite. I can have an item Buy It now for £15 with free postage for 30 days with no sale and then start it at 99p and it will sell for £20 excluding postage.

I am going more and more for auctions as things seem to sell better and quicker even if it is more time consuming if you have a number of items.

It seems like only low value items (under £3) that really seem to sell Buy It Now for me.

Of course, we used to have the best of both worlds - auctions with a BIN.

But since the stupid 40% higher rules, i have never added a BIN price. Whos gonna pay 40% MORE - just to get the item quicker.

Ebay lose BIN fees and i lose quick sales

    You could list 50/50..

    50% BIN, 50% Auction...
  • I'm having no troubles at the moment. Sold £1300 worth in the last 31 days via auctions.
    I offer free p&p though.
  • I always opt for auction only when im looking to buy

I'm not saying it's wrong but would be interested to know why you do that.

I have buyers who do it and occasionally end up paying more than the fixed price listing, even though the auction listing directs them to the fixed price one.

When I have something to auction, I always go to see if any similar items have sold. If they have not I just do not list.

Also, auctions can be seasonal. I listed an old Halloween mask on ebay a couple of weeks ago thinking that I would only get a couple of quid for it if I was lucky. I got £22. restored my faith a bit in ebay I must say.
