2 years 3 months for us, but that was purely financial as i wanted to buy a house which put our savings back to 0 before we could start wedding saving.

if i was to do it again i'd do 9-12 months, 2 years was far too long i just wanted to be married!!

I don't understand people who say they didn't get engaged. Isn't deciding to get married getting engaged? From the moment you make the decision to get married, you are engaged to be married! It doesn't have to involve a ring or a proposal.

I think the girls on the waiting for a proposal thread might disagree !
I remember one post where the wedding was booked but the girl was still waiting for the official proposal ....I didn't understand it at all LOL

    16 months engaged.

We thought it was sensible for me to finish my degree before being wed.

Was a fab time. Had final exam 4th June. Partied hard for 1 week. Final wedding prep 1 week. Got wed 19th June. Honeymoon 21st June. Degree results out 29th June, so had to work out how Mexican public phone boxes work to ring home to get my result.

Technically nearly 5 years, however that wasn't to save up for a wedding. In fact sadly we had to sell my engagement ring due to financial struggles a few years later.

We then decided Xmas 2010 that we were going to get married in August 2011 because my parents & sister were here on holiday. I had to have at least them at my wedding if the rest of my family couldn't attend.

Hubby bought me a new engagement ring and including the cost of my new ring and everything else to do with getting married was done for roughly £2,500.

364 days. Met when we were 17, engaged at 20 and married at 21. Wedding cost about £1500, shared between the family. We just wanted to be married so did it simply, it was a lovely summer village wedding with a horse and carriage.

We waited seven years before having children as we wanted to be in our own house. We lived in a rented converted garden building in a big house when we were engaged and first married, then bought a one bedroomed flat. We bought a house five years later.
A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

  • Engaged in late Jan, married early Nov, so 9-10mths engaged.

We were going to wait till the following year but my brother and his fianc!e had already decided to get married then. So getting married that year seemed the best solution, given that I am massively impatient and waiting 2 years would have driven me (and him) crazy!

Our parents wanted to pay for certain things, other things we could afford to do ourselves and it was a beautiful day.

Engaged after three months and married 16 months after that because I wanted a summer wedding and needed a bit of time to plan.

Met hubby at 18, got engaged at 19, moved away from home together at 20 and married at 24. We needed those years to grow together and to grow individually and split up during the time before we married. Now been married for 16 years and although it hasn't all been plain sailing we've weathered the storm easier by having that time earlier in our relationship to grow.
