It's a self imposed delay.
We didn't save for a wedding, we saved for a house! Add to that, OH was on a trainee's wage.0 -

But... living together is not being engaged is it?
I struggle to understand why anyone would have a long engagement - surely, once a decision to get married is reached then what on earth would take so long?:hello:0 -

6 - 12 monthsWe got engaged around October one year & married at cherry blossom time (April) the next - we had a place together, jobs - and just needed to give the parents time to agree the formalities they wanted.
Times they have a-changed - a couple in our position now might not bother with marriage until after children, but we are both old fashioned that way. 15 years & 3 sons later, we're still married & happy with it.0 -

1 - 2 yearsJust over a year. Didn't wait because of financial considerations. There were a few reasons to do with getting the venue we wanted but a big reason was wanting relatives and friends to be able to come from afar. My cousin and his wife used air miles to come over from the USA and simply couldn't have afforded to come if they didn't have a year's notice to book the flights. Same with other relatives who worked shifts so needed loads of notice to make sure they had the time off, and friends and relatives who needed to travel and book flights and accommodation. So I suppose we were considering finances when deciding to wait a year....it's just they were our guests' finances, not ours!0
