I am wanting to watch a programe which is being shown online tonight. As my laptop screen isnt very good it has been suggested I can connect my laptop to my TV to enable a larger picture and easier viewing.
Now the show isnt on YouTube its on Really TV ONLNE only (the one on the TV listing is different).
There is also another show (which is needing subscription monthly) which is viewable direct from another website dedicated to the show.
I'm a bit of a technophobic and given some advice via the shows forum I was under the impression I needed a HDMI cable to enable this connection. Until I mentioned in PC world (Currys was shut due to flood damage after storms) my laptop is a fairly old (4+ years) Compaq and TV is a newish (2 years old) Technika TV. The sales assistant assured me I can watch these programs via a NOW TV box which I purchased for £15.
feeling a bit of a mug and not sure if I was duped. Anyway insde the pack it includes a HDMI cable `but the box turns my TV into a 'smart tv' whatever this intails. However I am now being told on the shows forum that this box isnt compatible with the live streaming and therefore wont work.
Can someone help solve the problem please im really wanting to tune in tonight at 8pm and all this is getting more than confusing.
Thanks and sorry if this is in the wrong section I guessed as it was about TV more than computer it would belong here.

Failure is only someone elses judgement.

What is the model of your laptop?
Does it have a port on the side or back which looks like this:1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
It is a Compaq Presario CQ61 I think. It has one similar to that pic yes but it doesnt say what its for (no markings such as a pic or HDMI wording).Failure is only someone elses judgement.

If its 4 years old it may have a VGA out port rather than HDMI ??0

NowTV will get you some Sky stuff, and BBC iPlayer and a few other things at the moment, but you can't just stream any random old thing off the internet on it, you need a computer for that.
You want to use HDMI.
If you don't have HDMI, you want to use DVI (white, rectangular plug) plus the headphone jack of your laptop to the 'PC IN' sound input on your TV - may be a headphone jack shape, or stereo phono (red and white plugs).
If you don't have DVI, you want to use VGA (usually blue with 3 rows of pins) with the sound as above.
The cables, once you work out what you need, are cheap on eBay, even for nice long ones.
And you could have had that NowTV box for £10 direct from Sky. Sounds like you've been missold it to me.0 -
I found the HDMI cable worked and as the online site uses Vimeo that is on the Now TV box as well so dont need the laptop anymore for this.
Thanks for the help.Failure is only someone elses judgement.

zhuang, I realise you're a spammer (your profile gives that away), but couldn't you put a bit more effort in?1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
