    IIRC the midi standard hasn't changed that much since the mid 90's, some new features have been added but unless you're doing more complex stuff you probably won't ever need them.

    I think the biggest difference for the average user between older midi gear and newer stuff, is the onboard storage for samples, the actual communications protocol is still the same (for the music side of things - iirc they added the ability to control lighting at one point).

    persist with floppies, and find that the supply eventually dwindles and runs out...

    or

    look into opening up the current Korg, and installing one of these floppy emulators to replace the existing floppy drive.
