    Doesn't help, sampler, keyboard, recorder?

Whatever it is, there will be an updated modern better solution

    Just buy some 1.44MB disks.

I honestly don't know, I will have to ask him.

Sounds like they are floppies from a commodore amiga or zx spectrum 3 which used a thicker and slightly smaller floppy disk than the traditional 1.44 floppy disks. I would also suspect its a midi machine of some sort.

The pack shot suggests they were absolutely generic cheapo floppies, probably getting a bit threadbare and very much at risk of losing data sometime soon. IBM formatted - it's common for the device to format the discs to the correct format, I'd look at that as an option as with the amount of head wear etc it's probably going to be sub optimal anyway. Otherwise I suspect they're talking about being just regular PC discs as opposed to Mac formatted ones.

As others have flagged though, there may be another way if you can face introducing it. I know I wouldn't want to go there myself, but hey... The problem is the technology isn't a bit old, it's extinct. It's effectively unfixable and staggering towards catastrophic failure. When you can fit 25,000 floppies on a microSD card the size of a fingernail, momentum will flow in that direction and he's battling the tide. I'd hate to be the one getting the parental tech support calls about that setup, my sympathies!

Floppy Disk Ddrive: 3.5 inch 2DD/2HD

    Nothing unusual.

Dad says the floppy disks need the part at the top to be silver and that the plastic floppy disks are not reliable.

it's a sliding dust cover, and doesn't affect the operation of the disk. The recording material is inside, so it will work without a dust cover altogether. Regardless, there are plenty to choose from on amazon/ebay etc.

I never heard of that before. What is it or how much does it cost or where do you get it?
