EDF - Blue Price Freeze or Price Promise?

Thanks.
So I logged on to my account and clicked on "change tarrif" and this came up:
Now, as I was llogged on to my account, shall I assume this is based on my usage and not a general estimate?
Because if so... I would be saving on both of those tarrifs...0 -
Is your account showing as massively in credit at your current £100 payment? Do you enter meter readings or are all your bills based on estimates?
If estimates bang in your actual readings and see what effect that has.0 -
I pay the same amount every month based on last year's usage and divided by 12.
Was paying 113 per month but about a month ago I got a letter and it went down to 100 per month.
According the EDF website my "type of property/household" averages 66 per month so I guess my bills are high.
But as I said before, I do not like to feel cold/wear jumpers when I am at home.
When I go to work thermostat goes down to 20 degrees but when I am in it is on 23 degrees - evening and all night and all weekend.0 -
Turn your thermostat right down when you are not home, it's foolish paying to heat a place when no one is home. That alone is costing you a lot of money!
If you get a programmable thermostat you can set your heating to come on shortly before you get home, leave the temperature at 20C and increase it slightly when you get in. That would slash your bill to a fraction IMO.
The cost of the thermostat could be recouped in a few months! They are not that expensive maybe £40 to £60, only the cost of having it fitted.0 -
Be very careful with EDF's figures for switching - I've done an independent calculation on switching from my current EDF Blue til April 2014 to the 2017 fix -and it increases my costs by 29% which would increase my monthly payment by £35 from £119 BUT the EDF site is only suggesting an increase of £13 !!!
Something is wrong with their calculator still:rotfl:0 -
Absolutely no need to leave your 'stat on 23C all night-that's why your bills are so high. Set the timer to go off shortly before you go to bed, and on half an hour before you get up.
Similarly, leaving it on 20C all day is pointless and expensive-why? It's just burning power that leeches out of the house all day.
Modifying your usage will save you far more than any tariff change will.
The difference between the two tariffs is that the 2017 option will cost you considerably more for the increased security of an additional 2 year fix. It may or may not be cheaper-nobody knows. What you are paying extra for is essentially an insurance premium. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Well, I actually like 23 at night
AND a proper feather duvet...AND a blanket
My thermostat is rubbish as does not allow too many settings. I can had 2 variations only so would be like "day" and "night".
Setting it "hour before waking up" and "hour before coming home" etc would require a more advance thermostat with more options.
Few years back, I have a boiler with a themostat where you could have different setting for weekdays/weekends/different times of the day.. sigh...
I also hate not having a radiator in the kitchen as this is where I head first thing in the morning and it is always cold in there (cold for me anyway) but when the CH was put in - I was told they do not install radiators in the kitchens as "you cook there so it is always warm). So now I have to get someone to start cooking before 6am so it worms up by the time I get up and also someone to cook before I get home LOL
I have an electric heater in the kitchen, have not used it yet but going to dig it out this weekend.0 -
The different thermostat idea is a good one - can anyone reccomend one with lots of settings?
How much would it cost to have one fitted? Who fits those? Plumbers? I have no idea.. thanks...0 -
