I am with EDF for both gas and electric and currently pay £100 per month by fixed monthly DD.

I just had a look at their Blue options and can not work out difference beteen Price Freeze and price Promise, apart from the date as one is till 2015 and one till 2017.

I live in a 2 bed flat, at work 5 days per week but when inside - like to have 23 degrees in the flat.

As I said, at the moment I pay £100 per month for both gas and electric combined and I am fine with £100 but do not want this to jump out so looking at "freeze" options for my bills.

Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot.

I was on EDF freeze to March 2014 - paying about £86 a month. Just switched to their 2017 one (supposed to be about £92 a month). The 2015 one is a little cheaper, but who knows what price increase could hit in 2015. I personally am happy paying a little more right now, but knowing that will be steady until 2017

    Thanks.

Do they recalculate your bill when you sign up to any of those taffifs?

Based on your previous bills and new tarrif? No?

    Thanks

In my case I was an existing customer, so they know my usage. When I switched, they immediately recalculated my direct debit to be 92 from its previous 86.

Just done the on line calculations and it came up saying that at the moment I pay 71 per month (not true as i pay 100 per month but hey, do not like cold) , guess that was based on "average use for my type of property/number of people).

It said no saving on Blue Price Freeze but on Price Primise 36 annual saving.

    Hmmmm

I am a current customer too but pay my bill as dual fuel and their online thingy asked for separate gas and separate electric amounts so I just put "do not know" and it came up with 71 per month average use.

Maye call them and see what they say...when I get home from work.

So your new bill went up?

I had my kwh figures from an annual statement so I shoved those in. Yes my bill went up, but it was always going to, can't be paying 2010 prices forever!

If you have online edf account you could go see your online statement and get the KwH's from it, and plug those into the calculator

The Price Promise is explained in the link that you posted.

You can also see that the 2017 tariff will cost you more per annum than the 2015 plan, so obviously your DD payments will have to go up to cover this extra cost.

    I still do not understand.

So on whichever of those 2 they set a monthly price and it stays like that regardless of usage for the duration of the freeze/promise?

    NO!

Your initial DD payment is calculated from your past years usage. e.g. units used x unit price + standing charge.

The tariff is fixed for the duration but obviously if you use more energy, then your DD payments would need to be adjusted to pay for your extra consumption.
Price Promise - If you could save more than £1 a week (that's £52 a year) elsewhere at typical use‡, we'll tell you

The PRICE will remain the same (it is a lower price for the 2015 one, but post 2015 you are at markets mercy again) Your usage in combination with the price will determine what you are actually billed.
