Since when has the forum become so...militant regarding grammar

Whilst I agree with the majority of your post, I have to take issue with the assertion that the use of correct grammar is optional.

Grammar is terribly important and can change the entire meaning of a sentence - look at the difference between "I helped my Uncle Jack off a horse" and "I helped my uncle jack off a horse" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

  • LOL, please don't take offence - I just like any opportunity to use that example :rotfl:

Oh dear if it is a 'rule' I appear to be 1 of the biggest culprits , I always thought if you were posting a competition in a competition forum it was obvious it was to win so basically never seen the point of wasting the time of typing win and also run out of space occasionally , so I thought putting Facebook or twitter in the title would be a lot more important than win, add to that I can be very lazy occasionally, personally and it is my own opinion ,the word Win in the title is just pointless.

well, majority of us are culprits then sid :)
if I can't fit it in the title I leave it out as I said earlier..

'' think when the comps forum on here first started up it did help with searching comps/Game Over comps/ Comps we found on the web etc & we all followed VG's guide in them days,
things have changed over the years on here with longer titles/sometimes more info needed in titles/etc & if you can't fit it all in on the title it makes it a bit time consuming faffing about trying to  ''

AFAIAC the only bit in the title that should be correct is the date format, whatever comes after that should be however the OP wants to post it.

I agree with this and have thought it a few times when different things have come up.

As long as a comp has E: day/month quick description of comp in the title and then a working link to the comp in the post everything else is optional to me.

Is it helpful to have TW/FB etc... in the title of course, is it helpful to have key t&c's like number of nights for hols or exactly what the prize entails of course, if the OP can link to the dailies/weeklies great but if not someone else is likely to add these details later if they feel it's necessary.

For me this board is about team work, and the main thing is to get the comp on the board so that everyone knows it's there and to get the correct end date format so that it doesn't get move to game over.

Having said that on the other side of the coin a debate about 'best practice' is always welcome, however, I don't like it when it feels like an 'order'

ok, I'm going to move away from the soap box now...

Why would the word win need to be incorporated in the title or indeed the body of the post>

Why would you need to search the word 'win' on a competition board? Keywords are needed to find comps ie: iPad, holiday, trip, TV etc for those that don't wish to scroll through the whole board.

So long as the title is uniformed with the E: 00/00 and a slight descrip of the prize then that is suffice.

ETA: I do include the word win - habit now I suppose - but it's unfair to make people who don't add it feel that they are not inputting in the correct format when it's not required.

It would be good to see what the actual "rule" is for posting titles but the funny thing about this thread is you all "automatically" thought I was against people who post comps without the Win in the title.

The reason for my asking was for 2 reasons

1, Does it mess up the search function, I.E if someone posts a comp without the word win in the title would it still show up when you search for the comp?

2, If it does not matter if we have win in the title then I for one will leave it out because anything that cuts the amount of typing out is a blooming good thing.

So my question to everyone who has posted on this thread is:

Why did you all barring one person jump to the conclusion that what I was asking was going to be bad for you all?
