They normally have access outside until we go to bed so we don't always make sure they have been out so we will start doing that now - also I will look into a litter tray that isn't a bad idea thank you

I wouldn't do the litter tray yet, you don't want to be telling them that going indoors is ok!

Definitely start making them go out last thing before bed. With free access, they don't know when that's about to be cut off! If you got to bed at 11, it might be that they would have taken themselves out at 11.15 or midnight and now can't.

Make it part of the routine, I'd be surprised if that doesn't solve the issue.
  • Yes I think it might solve the issue to - we just sort of assume well if they needed a wee they will have had one by now lol - I am hopeful this will sort it out - its not a major issue in the grand scheme of things - just leads to a lot of bed washing which isn't always easy -

Still she is a star in every other way well they both are - Scrappy is a Patterdale and we took him to a dog show for that breed all the others were working/hunting dogs one of them even attacked the one walking in front of them - the judge said he had never seen one as placid as him before - Jinny we call her our angel cause we think she was sent to us from heaven - soft aren't we lol

Our dogs have access to the garden and have 3or 4 walks a day but just before we go to bed I open the back door and tell the pair of them 'go do pee pee'. They know this is the last time for going in the garden, sometimes they just sit on the grass or they do their business but we have not had any accidents indoord since doing this. They are both rescues and we did have the occassional accident at night. I would suggests you come up with a phrase that you say to them so that they know this is the last pee of the day. :)

I know that Lisa doesn't want to encourage her dogs to pee inside and yes it is better to do it outside but a litter tray may be a good idea as an intermediate solution. If the dogs get caught short or used to going in it you can then move the whole tray outside as the next step.
I know if I was a dog I wouldn't want to pee in a garden in this wet weather, I would rather go indoors.
  • It can also be the smell on the floor.

My girl is an absolute cow for it, sometimes she'll go outside and have a poo, then wee in the kitchen while the door is still open. I've scrubbed the floor and bleached it and put lemon juice on it and everything else you can think of. What i do find though is that it's always the same place, so if i put a chair there she can't go, and won't do it anywhere else..... (he says hoping he doesn't get home to a new wet patch).

she's not a JR though so you'll probably need something lower than a chair.

You may not have seen this post I left further up. You can get Urine Off for dogs who have 'accidents'. Urine Off helps you by killing the smell and disinfects and helps little one by killing the smell for them too, they then are less encouraged from peeing there again. I buy mine from R&L Pet Products but you can get it elsewhere.

I missed that one, I've got something similar but it doesn't seem to work, only thing that works is blocking the area so she can't go
