I now believe in all the conspiracy theories with a side order of fairies and bigfoot.
Oh well.

In all honesty I sometimes think democracy is doomed to failure when I see all the stupid gold bugs out there.0

You think that's bad? I hear that there is some concern about the wording of the referendum question:
"Do you think that the United Kingdom should be a member of the European Union"
might need to be changed, in case voters don't realise that we are already part of the EU.
Honestly... if people don't realise that we're part of the EU, they shouldn't be allowed to vote!
I suggest two questions:
"Is the United Kingdom part of the European Union" and
"Do you think the UK should remain part of the EU"
would sort things out. Anyone who answers "no" to the first has their vote to the second vote disregarded.

but then everything is doomed to failure. or as keynes said, in the long run we are all dead.0 -
There will come a point when I increase my gold exposure but not until every last bull has capitulated.
When the price falls then by percentage so do the holdings by various interests.
If we then point at the price as a reason why its not worth holding, its a bit of a feedback loop. Not very logical.
The gold has not changed now to 2 years ago, how much its used is more like its worth.
If this was a company we'd be estimating potential worth, I know we dont value it much now but I see its potential increase as quite obvious
China doesnt have to buy any gold, they are a major producer. So their accumulation is much more then is apparent I think, they dont publicly acknowledge their holdings very often
The last two years was the time to increase holdings, even when its still falling and sell it again when its rising.
Right now I think 1350 or higher is a good point of optimism though Im not guessing on any big rise till Fed's ineptness becomes blatantly apparent0 -
I've been buying gold and gold miners for the last two years. Sold a bit on the recent rise to 1450 and bought back in below 1300 but still down overall as I have holdings from when gold was over $1600. However bull market has some way to go I believe:

sounds about right to me Ed.
i have the S&W fund in my ISA, and have some Avocet Mining shares.
and a little bit of physical gold.0 -
and i don't know about 'bugs' per se, but wise investors look to buy low & sell high....with gold aswell as property and equities, and i know people who have added on dips during the past couple of years, some of them selling when it has gone higher0

I have the Smith & Williamson fund too. Been adding to it over the last few weeks with the price at low levels. Let's hope it does jump back up!Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
