Equniti transfer to ISA from investment account

I couldn't find this information on the equiniti site anywhere so wondered if anybody on here could help me out. I have an existing investment account with some shares in. I haven't currently used my full ISA allowance(only had a cash ISA). So I decided it would be a good idea to transfer the existing shares I hold into the ISA. I've opened the ISA account on equiniti online and I thought there was an option to transfer investments in from existing investment accounts held with them but I can't see how to do it at all. Can anybody tell me how to do this? It says on their site when you open the ISA that they send you postal confirmation so maybe you have to wait for this before doing anything?

Thanks

  • You don't state if your shares are paper or electronic. You could ring them on their landline 0121 415 0105.

Their site does state the following:-

Move certificated shares into an ISA

Although ISA rules prevent you from transferring shares from paper certificates directly in to a Stocks and Shares ISA, with our ISA you get a free Equiniti Investment Account. This is a no charge nominee account which you can transfer your certificated shares into and you can use this account to help you put shares into your ISA.

Once your shares are transferred in to an Investment Account you can sell them, transfer the money into your ISA and repurchase the shares within your ISA account, giving you the tax efficiencies. This can be done easily online or by calling customer services on 0845 300 0430. You will, however, be liable for any changes in share price which happens during this process.

To transfer your certificated shares into your Investment Account please complete a CREST Transfer form and send it with your certificates to: Equiniti, PO Box 4605, Worthing, BN99 6QY .

Your shares will then be held in electronic form on your behalf in the Investment Account. You can then follow the steps above to repurchase the shares and hold them in your Shareview Dealing ISA.

If you’re posting any valuable documents, such as share certificates, you may want to send these by registered mail.

Sorry I missed that out they're electronically held.

Ah actually I think I've found the answer to my own question and it's that you have to sell, transfer the cash and rebuy within the ISA account. Thanks for the reply anyway.
