people calling your partner your husband/ wife

it has happened a few times and its quite nice, we have been together for about ten years and on one occasion when i commented on another couple when we were walking in the street, the man was carrying his bike while his lady friend was carrying the wheels of the bike and my partner said that is what wives of cyclists do

a neighbour just knocked on the door and needed help with his bicycle from my 'husband'

it is a nice warm feeling but cant but feel if i was married to my partner i would definately make more of an effort :D

i dont really see it as necessary, why fix something that isnt broken, ill never forget the famous line from four weddings and a funeral where simon callows character expresses his views on marriage

my parents were married for twenty years and my mother has been married to her current husband for about fifteen, i wasnt given a negative image of marriage as i was growing up, my brother is happily married

sometimes i think i would have too much too lose and ive seen other people get married and divorced in a shorter space of time

You don't see the point of marriage but get a warm feeling when you are referred to as a a 'wife'?

So... I really don't get your point.

Doing the legal bit so that you're married shouldn't affect your relationship but it does give you some legal and financial protection that unmarried couples don't get.

I thought this was going to be a thread about people calling your partner or your wife/husband.

It was the "It's quite nice" comment that prompted me to re-read the title.
