    zzzzz

After loads of these parrotted press releases, the prices are still pretty similar, and MSE never foreshadows increases

It's well overdue to drop the hyperbole about fuel price war.

edit: and the overworn cliche involving sparks

This is non news, the price goes up, the price comes down, but the long term average just goes up and up.

    +1

They keep their heads down when they increase prices, but issue press releases when they drop them by a penny.

I am sure its been asked, but have the Supermarkets ever justified the variance in their own prices between stores, we live in a market town where its £1.409 for diesel, 9 miles away in the same county but a larger town its £1.359

Supply and demand or lack of local competition?

Asda have a maximum amount policy so it doesn't really apply to them.

I heard the Government was looking into reducing duty to compensate.

Well since the last over the top hype of price cuts, Prices have risen. This is a complete farce. I am now fed up with this stop advertising price cuts unless we get real long term noticeable cuts.

The three Tesco's in the oldham area still seem to be trying to hike prices upwards.

they are always between 1p and 2p higher than the nearest competitor.
a few days later the competitors put their prices up. then usually the tesco's hikes their prices again to suit.

come on moneysavingexperts! this reluctance to drop prices by tesco's surely shows how they are trying to influence others.

in one case there is a tesco petrol station right opposite a morrisons one. and yet morrisons is always cheaper!

and having used both i get better range with the cheaper fuel!

    There is no justification.

These big supermarkets are not our "friends" - they are there to exploit as much money out of us as possible.

They do that by screwing over as many people as they can.

I cant see how they can. With cars ever more fuel efficient, tax revenue from fuel is way down on what they used to get.

Towns with 2 large supermarkets selling fuel are normally cheaper than towns with just the 1 large supermarket.

For example this last weekend I saw diesel for 136.9 in Newbury & Basingstoke, where in Salisbury it was 140.9.
