It's the same recipe only they changed one ingredient! This will cut the cost down and DH will be so pleased to see it on the menu more frequently
I use mixed frozen peppers, as it adds colour and cuts price down.We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -

We make a 'Spanish Rice' which is basically the same, no chicken but with prawns and my DH goes nuts over it... definitely a recipe to try as soon as the baby comes and I can eat food like this again
I looked it up too, the Delia one.
I start my recipe (got it from a magazine years ago) on the hob and then finish it off in the oven so once all the prepping done I don't need to worry about it.
I use tinned tomatoes, no chorizo (slice in a few frankfurters instead) and add peas, mushrooms and carrots plus thyme instead of bay leaf.0 -

I've never used frozen pepper, I am affraid it will be sacrifice on taste... I only buy fresh when it is on offer and then cook around it. I love peppers, but fresh they give OH indigestion.
What do you use them for and what do you think about the taste? Just for stir frys, or would you add them to roast meditarenian vegetable mix etc as well?0 -
We are split on the frozen peppers in our house, fresh have more crunch... But those who don't like them as much will eat frozen no fuss, and they still have a lot of flavour in them to add to the dish.
We use them on pizza, in curries... Pretty much anything where they're cooked. My son loves to eat peppers raw, so I buy them when on offer and use frozen the rest of the time...
I used mostly frozen veg, even mushrooms. It saves me a fortuneWe spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -
Thanks for that. I think I will buy small packet and see. When at Tesco fresh pepper cost 80p piece and there are no offers around and all I want it for is to add a bit into Jambalaya or stir fry it seems a waste!
My OH cannot eat peppers raw at all.. He loves them, but as he says they don't love him back. And while I like them too, I can do without them, but for the occassional treat..0 -
Cheapest I've found frozen (and most reliably in stock) is Mr S 2 bags for £2.50...
I find like you, fresh cost so much you might as well save it for when you're eating them raw.
Plus frozen have more vitamins
If using a lot of frozen, I normally cut down on stock because they do contain water...We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. Hi, we love left over chicken in our house, we often have a very large roast chicken and then cook the left overs the following day in the following:
chicken and pea risotto - fairly labour intensive but very tasty we don't bother with the thyme. SOrry can't post links but good food is where we got both recipes. We sometimes use it in a butternut squash and pancetta risotto also and throw some dry chilli's in. Yum
The other thing we use left over chicken in is the following family favourite - jamie oliver turkey and sweet leek pie - again can't post link as a newbie.
We use chicken instead of turkey.
For Pork we do a stir fry with red peppers, red chilli's onion with a sauce of 2 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tb sp honey, 1 lime juice and 1 tb sp corn flour - mix the cornflour in with the soy sauce first before adding honey and lime juice. We then toast some sesame seeds and sprinkle in a minute before serving.0 -
I use frozen peppers for everything but salads. This week I bought fresh ones (offer in Aldi) and what I don't use fresh I'll chop and freeze myself.
Generally I buy them in either Farmfoods or Iceland. Farmfoods frozen veg is excellent. Mushrooms 2 x 500g bags for £1. Perfect for casseroles and sauces.0 -
Mamam - I used to go to farmfoods all the time. But they're not anywhere near me here... Do you know if they still do frozen chopped leeks?
That used to save me a fortune! I'd travel further and bulk buy them if they still do...We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. They do indeed. £1 for a kg bag and they're my absolute favourite. Such good value compared with fresh and no prepping and no waste! Only tonight I put a handful in the soup I was making.
I'm near Southampton so we have one fairly locally, might be worth a trip to stock your freezer.;)0
