New washing machine - Indesit or Hoover?
Comments

I would not touch Indesit with a bargepole.
Paid for extended warranty, the bloke came out forced it and broke it and I spent 6 weeks without a machine and I had a new baby. Their customer service was a disgrace and they didn't even refund the cost of me having to go to the Launderette day in day out (a 14 mile round trip!). Never again would I tuoch a machine that is going to be fixed by Merloni (Ariston, Hotpoint, Candy).
I have a Hoover now for 15 months and it has been fine (One of the Family Wash Machines). Touch wood. It has none of the Digital Displays though.
Having looked on the John Lewis website more recently I noticed a lot of them came with 2, 3 or 5 year guarentees (or you could pay a small extra amount for it) Some of the bigger, obviosuly more reliable machines, came with 10 year guarentees. They would not give the guarentee if it did not last - they do cost double that of a normal machine but I would be tempted to give it a go next time.

This one looks good - free 3 year guarentee. Maybe some codes knocking around on hotukdeals as well, there usually is.
Free 5 year guarentee

They go quick though you'll have to make a quick descision. I saw one had more than 10 in stock and 12 hours later when I went to order they had all gone!!0 -
We have a second hand hoover, and it has been fine for 5 years now, no idea how long it was in action before that. I did snap the door hinge by leaning on it, but that was probably my fault! Fixed by the local repair man, who seemed to be able to get parts without problems. Prior to this we had another second hand hoover as students, and that was indestructible - at least 10 years old! I don't know if their more recent machines are as reliable...0

Hoover is now some other company. They were good until a few years ago, I gather.:beer:0 -
I have had an ariston machine for 10+ years...no problems...and ariston are made by indesit.
By contrast, my mum has a Hoover and hasn't had any probs with that either.0 -
For what it's worth: Indesit, Ariston, Hotpoint and Scholtes are all made by the Indesit company.
Hoover, Candy and Kelvinator machines are all made by Candy.
Both companies are Italian, but have factories all over.0 -
..also, the company that makes Bosch washing machines is 50% owned by Siemens! They also make Miele machines alongside Bosch branded ones.
Confuddled yet?0 -
If you want a machine to last for a number of years and you can afford it, you need to look at a brand like Miele. Usually around £500+.
We had a Hotpoint - good machine until the bearings went after 2.5yrs. If I'm honest it was because we overloaded it (washing multiple sets of rugby kit in one go killed it eventually). Now onto a Hoover and being more careful about how much goes in one wash. I think that's what can make the difference between a 2yr machine and a 6yr one.

I have had a Hoover for just over 2 years, have had no problems whatsoever but it is very noisy!
When my last machine (an Indesit) broke down, the washing machine repair guy said he thought Zanussi were the best, however I ended up getting the Hoover as it was on offer and was about 50 quid less than the Zanussi equivalent.0 -
my new Hoover is still working fine... It's brilliant to have an 8kg load! It means we do about half as many loads as we did with our old machine.0
