O/S Daily Thread Tuesday 29th Oct 2013

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning All
    Hope everything went OK yesterdayRR
Did you let the neighbour have what for HH

Street Party went fine, loads of wine & cava left over so now well stocked   Party anyone?

Even though I said no gifts I was ignored and we have a lovely orchid, a flower tea light holder which is really nice. Set of 6 coffee cups & saucers, another type of tea light holder, a garden gnome & bubbly, all lovely. Also cards, but will keep those to open on the 10th. Will take pictures later, hot house looks like WW3 ATM. DH is still asleep, but my clock still in BST.

Back on the low carb today, had to give in yesterday when a lovely couple who come originally from the Ukraine brought two platters of nibbles, you cannot insult people can you!

I must close here as typing on my phone, so ((hugs)), spoons & positive vibes all round. Take care everyone DG

n.b. Forgot to mention while getting ready for the Street Party, a cap broke on one of my front teeth, rang the dentist they fitted me in 40 minutes later, temp one fitted and imprint made to have new one by 4th Nov. Well impressed.

redruby. Hope you are ok and that everything went smoothly , thinking of you and your family xx

bb wish I could close my eyes again , but I'm off to do the paid stuff, I went to bed at 9 pm as I felt so tired and slept all night, I still feel tired lol

Finish at 6 tonight , hoping that dh will sort the tea out

DD1 has dropped her phone and smashed the screen , she has had a quote for £126:eek: surely it's cheaper than that

    Oh well off to work
Have a good day everyone xxx
  • Good morning everyone :)

Weather was a bit wild overnight, must have been the tail end of the storm. Still seems to be raining so GDD won't be impressed as DH told her the weather was going to be good. No idea where he got that one from.

DGG's Halloween costume is finished, she is a cannibal :eek:Consists of a cut down skirt and top which have been given ragged edges and lots of beads and bones attached. Beads were already in my craft box and we managed to find some shells that looked like teeth. Bones were from glow in the dark skeleton purchased from £1 shop. She also has a glow in the dark skull on a stick! She is delighted.

DD's Corpse Bride is almost complete, I just need to cut the bottom of the dress when she is wearing it. One side of the bodice has the original sequins, the other has little spiders crawling up it. Another £1 shop special.

DGG's WWII project is also complete and she is happy with that so I am hoping for full good nan marks from DD :rotfl:

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

    Morning everyone

RR - hope everything went as well yesterday as these things can x

HH - hope you managed to get the fence sorted, so you don't have to put up with snotty neighbour x

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Light cloud and blue sky and dry underfoot, very light breeze here this morning. Washing on the line.

DH up and getting ready for work, no stupid early start today.

Dinner last night was a quick egg, bacon, mushrooms, beans (and chips for the menfolk not me). The weather here was very windy and rough with some heavy downpours but nothing like as bad as we were expecting and we have had much worse storms. When we watched the tv last night on the local news it showed a map of where the worst of the storm had crossed our region and it was a good way south of here - it seems we were on the outside edge of it all thank goodness.

Work was a manic Monday - possibly because everyone had been led to believe it was going to be really rough and it wasn't so they got on with the stuff they wanted to get done! Today will be busy too, as lots of people came in saw how busy we were and said they would come back today!

Last week tried to get tickets for a spirit medium that I've wanted to see for ages at a theatre 40 mins away and thought I'd left it too late, but managed to get tickets and it's this Wednesday - so DH has spoken to his boss and is going to work an hour earlier so he can leave an hour earlier at the end of the day and we'll go over to the theatre, really looking forward to it.

    Keep safe and well x

The weather is calmer today, fish fed, hubby has a cuppa in bed & I have a cuppa next to my laptop.
Hubby pre-empted the neighbour, knocked on her door and explained that he'd be repairing the fence immediately. It was done by 6 o'clock so the last bit was done in the dark, but it looks straight enough to me. I'll post pics on my blog later, we're £160 lighter, so that puts paid to a couple of treats we had planned for this week, but at least the garden is secure. The two biggest treats we had planned for this week, lots of sleep and lots of hestering are unaffected by lack of money!
RR, I hope things went well y'day, Molly I hope you aren't overdoing it.
LW, do you have any new furry lodgers, hugs to hilly & bemuzed.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all,
still worn out after yesterday's dash round town and trip over to see my parents - DD wants to fit things in and moves fast. I did a bit more shopping for the family gifts and have sorted out my mum's 80th birthday present (night in a posh hotel). She doesn't like anything that she has to dust, water or eat and only does things on her terms!

DD is baking today (I like cake :D) and I'm going to sort out the freezer again. I'm hoping to replace our current small freezer and the fridge/freezer combo with a full size freezer and small fridge so that I can keep tabs on what is in the freezer instead of fighting DH's "there's a gap and Luxor is psychic" method of filling.

Just a 'proud mummy' moment: DD heard yesterday that she has got the job she went after :T beating the competition by attention to detail. Nice increase of pay and office hours instead of a starting time of 6 am and no heating in the stockroom (manager was King Weasel ).

Anyway, off to play with the DW and peg out the washing as there is a nice steady wind and blue sky here.

Have the best day you can X
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

    Hi veryone,

TTFM those costumes sound great, how clever are you. HH I hope you and DH have a lovely break.

We took DD and BF back to London last night, she wanted to take some more of the possessions she still has here and I was quite happy to oblige!

I made Mary Berry's apple and cinnamon cake yesterday and it was lush, I think I'll make the chocolate fudge cake next. I've been inspired by the working through a cookbook thread but nothing sensible for me - just cakes.

Apart from that I have 3 Christmas placemats I need to finish sewing for a raffle prize, they've taken me longer than they should because I pieced the backing from lots of left over pieces of Christmas fabric I had. At least it will get me out of the housework.

    Have a good day.

    Morning all,

BB hope it went as well as it could x
TTFTM you are clever, our darling Oscar is dressing up as a werewolf , his mum, bf and ds2 and gf are all off to a Halloween party on Friday so we are babysitting which involves an hour of trick or treating, just to friends houses, lighting our crazy pumpkin, currently has big nails sticking out of it:eek: and watching a scary film, just a bit scary as I am a big softie.
Luxor well done to your DD:T
Hester my kind of fun :p
Nmlc I love having my fortune told, have had lots of readings some good some not so good, but I take it all with a pinch of salt
Sistercas, our son lost his iphone 5 at a gig so making do with an old blackberry.
DG glad the party went well

I'm a bit cross with the hotel my son works for, he had no work last weekend and no one has contacted him to let him know about this weekend. He has a new manager and since he took over he hasn't given him any hours. I suspect its overtime for his mates at the weekend leaving Dan with no hours. He can't work during the week As he is at 6th form. He has rung every couple of days to check if he has work at the weekend, I suspect he's being fobbed off. I'm on the point of ringing myself and telling him what I think but dan has begged me not too:mad: I will leave it for now...
Out with dh early this morning. Dd dropped at the station, won't see her until Wednesday night now as she has a meeting in London and DGS dropped at his other grannies. Then with his daddy for a couple of days so won't see him until Friday.
A busy day for us, hoping to have lunch out so no tea to cook as ds3 is at his gf's for tea. Will just have a snack later.
My middle son has a good plan for a little business. Just a one man and his van kind of thing but he is very excited and can't wait to get started. It's nice to see him feeling so positive.
Anyway enough waffle, bye for now J x
