Huge bill after Gas pipe fixed in the street

I wonder if anyone can offer advice, my sister has had a gas bill in for over £200 for June. Her average bill is £19. During the month of June the Gas pipes were being replaced in her street, when she queried it with her supplier she was told that she can't prove that it was anything to do with that so she must pay the bill.

Does anyone know if this is the case, is she stuck paying for gas use that she couldn't have run up even if she had left her gas hob on 24/7 that month (which she didn't). Is there a way to prove that the gas used was more likely down to a leak when replacing the pipes?

Any advice greatly appreciated!

She will pay for usage as per what has flowed through her meter, not anything at all what has happened to pipes in street.

Has she been relying on estimates and not sending actual usage to provider?

What has it to do with the pipes in the street? The pipes in the street do not contain metered gas in the normal sense. The only gas that your sister pays for is that which flows through her meter and is consumed by the appliances connected to it.
