My other half is making noises to visit Germany and take in a Christmas market. Anyone care to make a recomendation of which city to visit or even avoid?

I used to live in Dusseldorf and can highly recommend there - the city has a few markets around the centre that are like one big market! Aachen is a nice market - nice town to visit too!
Not too keen on Cologne, bit crampt together.
Berlin and Munich are meant to have good markets too, but never been!
Oh its got me wanting Gluhwein, Bratwurst and Reibekuchen now! Skint this year though, I'll have to make do with Leeds Xmas Market instead!0 -

Looking for personal info and recomendation rather than simply reading web pages.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
Well, thats fine, but of course personal opinions are just that, subjective, and can be influenced by many considerations that might not be relevant to you. Hence the overview.0

Cologne is one of the best and easiest to get to.
But there are lots of options.
Where in the UK are you?
Do you want to go for a weekend or during the week?
Do you want to fly, train, car or coach?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
GLA has flights on Lufthansa to DUSseldorf. There is a direct train link from DUS airport to Cologne.
If EDInburgh airport is possible there's more choice.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
From EDInburgh there's Cologne on Germanwings, Krakow on Ryanair, Munich on easyJet, Prague on easyJet, Brussels on Brussels airlines for Bruges and Antwerp, Charleroi on Ryanair for Liege, Namur and Aachen.
There's also the Caves at Valkenburg.
Depends how adventurous you are, how many nights away you want, how much you want to spend, how far you want to travel from the airport to your accommodation etc.
Btw Germanwings hand luggage weight allowance is 8kg http://www.germanwings.com/en/Service/Baggage_Are_there_any_restrictions_on_the_amount_size_and_weight_of_hand_baggage.htmPosts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0
