Well exactly, you don't. So you can't book anything you need to know the date for until a year before. I'm getting married in a registry office and then going on to a church blessing and theres no way they were going to let me book it already no matter how much I paid. I think you can provisionally book the venue if your getting married in a hotel but if the registra is not available on that date you would have to change it.

We booked our wedding over a year in advance. It just cost us more to do so. Maybe its different in Scotland. How do you know you will be able to get a registrar on the day you need then if you cant book them?

    Emma :)

You can check thay are free on the day/time you want but you can not confirm a booking until you have given notice & you can't give notice more than 12 months in advance.

you have to make sure you get an appointment to give notice 365 days before the wedding you want and hope & prey that nobody gets in there before you:confused: not the best system, I cried when I found out we had to wait 4 weeks for an appointment and called them every other day to check my time was still free

It was still free, and now it's mine :j:jWoooooooo

Welcome gabyjane - thanks for joining.

We contemplated a wedding abroad and then decided against it for various reasons but congratulations on booking yours - are you excited?

We are in the same boat I am also stuck on colour theme although I am swaying towards the traditional Ivory and Gold, maybe we guide each other on our progress.

I have a consultation booked for a florist and photographer for next week.

I now have no life as I am constantly thinking of the wedding plans that are NOT in place yet! I think I am going mad!:rotfl:

    Hi everybody

I thought I would share with you my experiences at the weekend, I went to visit a photographer to get an idea of prices, she was very good and knew our venue really well. She showed us a slide show of her work and we were really impressed - until she showed us the price list.

£2195.00 - is this the going rate - are is she taking the biscuit.

The thing is I have been advised not to scrimp on the photos as I would regret it, but if this is the going rate for wedding photographers these days, I will not be able to afford one at all.

What is a girl to do? I am going to have a look into other photographers to see what their rates are and compare - any other suggestions?

I know how you feel. I've had a few quotes off of people and the cheapest I can get it to is £750 just to go to the registry office and not the reception. Out of all the things I'm getting for my wedding I can see that photography is going to be the most expensive.

Well If I could get it down to £750 - I would be really pleased. Confetti suggest to budget £500 for photography - which i think is a little misleading.
What are you getting for £750? what area do they cover?

We paid £500 for our photographer 1 year ago and soon after we booked they put the price up to £650, this was for a traditional package. A storybook package which means your album is graphically designed with lots of different frames etc will be at least £1500 depending on where you are. Our photos were 8x8 and we had 30 in the album for £500, we paid £250 extra to have more put in the album it took the total photos up to about 48.
