Crashed into but Refused to Stop

There was a big debate on here some weeks ago about elderly drivers and fitness to drive.

It may well be that the police are intending to take the matter further with the DVLA. Did anybody ask them when they came around your house?
I don't think you can imply she's not fit to drive just 'cos of her age. The Police have been around to see her and haven't suggested that.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

That is a rather large assumption to make from what the OP posted.
Yes she is old but the OP stated the conditions were bad and maybe she didn't want to stop because she might have felt intimidated in such a situation.
Not defending anyone's actions here but try not to jump to conclusions based on pre-conceived stereotypes from only the most basic of information.0 -
Thanks for all your advice.
I think Ill get some quotes then send them to her and see if anything comes of that. The car is probably worth £8-£900 but it needs a new rear bumper and quarter panel (or at least significant work on them) which I would think the prices repair centres charge would soon approach that.)
Id have been more then happy with an apology and a contribution to the damage, even just £100 or £200, and this is exactly what the police told us to expect when we first reported it, but the way it appears to have been dismissed makes me a little aggrieved.
As someone said it may be that the police are taking further action but I still dont feel why we should be out of pocket through no fault of our own.

Don't deal with her, claim directly from her insurance company. Get a quote from where you want the damage to be repaired, you don't need several quotes. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Accidents happen old or young.
Her insurance will pay for the damage, that's what insurance is for. I appreciate you would like to keep your insurance company in the dark so your premiums aren't affected, but she obviously doesn't want to go down this route and is happy for the insurance to sort it.
Is it unfair your premiums will be affected, yes.
Is having insurance in place designed to cover the cost, yes.
Sadly the system punishes non fault drivers as well, unfair but true.
Now the police have been involved there will be a record so I would be very cautious about not advising your insurance company, it may be in the terms of your policy that you have to advise of any accidents regRdless of fault or claim and if you don't advise them it may come back to bite you at some point.
And frankly the police shouldn't be saying what will or won't probably happen and I am surprised they would suggest a cash deal to negate advising the insurance company. Isnt making a misrepresentation to an insurance company, eg not advising of an accident in order to maintain a cheaper premium fraud?0 -
why are the police letting someone like this remain on the road without looking into it? If she can crash into a parked car outside school would it be a child next time?.........My wifes car is already battle scarred
Hmmm, seems there are two drivers here who need to take more care.0 -

87 and driving into parked cars, ye right.
We haven't heard from the OP what the police said about the lady continuing to be on the roads and whether they would recommend the DVLA revoke her licence.0 -

Of course only old people drive in parked cars, it never happens to younger people does it?
Why would the police divulge that sort of info to the OP?0 -

A 32 year old guy smashed into my parked car on a lovely dry sunny day while i was in it, i should of asked if the police were going to recommend to the DVLA that they revoke his licience!0
