Appears to be illegal in the same way that a remap, or almost any other performance altering engine modification would be illegal. All your base are belong to us.0

The 1.6 TDCi Focus is a bit renowned for DPF problems, soon as they get to higher mileage 60k+ they start throwing out DPF error codes regularly.
If you google 'focus 1.6 tdci dpf problems' you'll find a lot of reading to be had0 -

Can you let us know which car/s you have?0 -

It's on the top facing the body of the car so one can see the cuts, it still passes the smoke density test and a visual inspection the DPF still appears to be present.
Interesting point. There presumably must be a difference in the emissions following a DPF removal (or car manufacturers wouldn't fit them in the first place), but at present the MOT test emissions test isn't suitable to detect this, is that right? The solution would seem to be better emissions testing equipment, but I guess the cost would be prohibitive?0 -

Since when has a remap been illegal?
The way dpfs work is they collect the ash then burn it off when when the sensors detect a pressure build up determined by manufacture settings to trigger a regeneration, different cars seem to differ but usually, engine has to be upto operating temp, over a certain amount of fuel in the tank.0
