Living In Accom Charges - single

I had this wild idea that married people paid less income tax. If that isnt beneficial then perhaps you can send yours to me via the HMRC - assuming you are in receipt of the advantageous tax regime.
They don't. The married couples tax allowance was abolished in the mid-80s (except for people born pre-1935) and was only worth anything if the couple were in different tax bands (eg working/one not working or a higher-rate/basic-rate couple)
There are plans to reintroduce it next year. However its only gong to be worth at most £200pa if it becomes law0 -
I went to look at a room in a house, that was owned by a single forces person.
He was renting 2 rooms in a 3 bed house and the other lodger assured me that he usually came home and stayed about 6 weekends a year. I guess we paid his mortgage, and he got the investment of a nice house, and a base near to his parents, but not have to actually live with them. I can only assume he paid tax on the profit, because we paid by BACS and not Cash.
I never actually met him, as I didn't stay at weekends.0 -
Thats a simplistic view if there ever was one. Equally simple the PSTAT 1&2 move in SFA pay a lot less than a mortgage and associated maintenance charges, which compensates for the loss of any income, the kids go into/stay in public school so have continuity of education. Just because I am single its doesnt mean I am as mobile as you would suggest.
Or they can sell their house as well. Its all about choices. There is parity on just about everything else. Not this.
They could just sell their house and buy closer to their new base, and some do. But that not only impacts on the life of the serviceman, but also his spouse and kids.
Who does selling your house impact on?0 -

Who does selling your house impact on?
Just because someone is not in PSTAT Cat 1 or 2, does not mean that they don't have a family to provide for.0 -
