    From the article

    But what about Helensburgh?
Paula Bailey, manager of Allen & Harris estate agents in the town has got her feet firmly on the ground. She doesn't expect the opening of the 300th Waitrose to push up the house prices any time soon.

A strange place pretty grim IMO a chippy there used to do deep fried black pudding, may even have done Mars bars.

No it's definitely Waitrose, part of the John Lewis's chain no less.

I think the post was poking fun at your spelling (or typing, if feeling charitable)
  • I beg your pardon but I was the one who spelt Waitrose correctly.

Anyway back on topic, I am not sure that you can class Aldi or Lidl as supermarkets as theirs nothing super in them. Usually just isles upon isles of cheap discounted useless plastic tat or clothing.

Do they offer a ferry service to these isles of plastic tat?

I just re-read the original post, and clocked the reference to the 'primary' residence. The phrase 'primary residence' is definitely a Waitrose-style concept, and changes the whole discussion.

    I couldn't agree more.

While my 'primary' residence is closest to Sainsbury's, I consider my "grocer" to be Fortnum & Masons. It is local on the frequent occasion that I reside temporarily in my suite at the Ritz.

Of course the article doesn't seem to recognise the reverse correlation that applies to proximity to the Co-op. These sad outlets are mainly in the North (thank goodness) and thus can be proven to take about £150K, on average, off the price of a house.

We have a Waitrose in nearby Buckhurst Hill. I tend to await e-mails offering me £15, or 20% etc. off my 'first delivery' and then await their special offer on Schweppes Tonic. I then buy about £70-worth at about £30 saving from Sainsbury prices. They seem not to notice that I've had about 3 'first deliveries' in the last year or so.

HiperDino - they value their staff more than their advertising agency.

In poundland, Morrisons are better than most for fresh meat and fish, Sainsbury ok for veg.

Waitrose & Lidl are equidistant from me about 15 miles away but closest is a farm shop and then a Spa type shop in the village.

    Coop, but dodgy parking.
    A Tesco & an Asda just a short reach past a LIDL & a B&M.

Live in a "village" on the edge of London. Has a little Waitrose only good for whoopsies. Then there's a Tesco metro at the petrol station and a Sainsbury's local, all within a five minute walk both open 7-11.

About a mile away there's full-size supermarkets; a major 24-hour Tesco and a open late Morrisons, Asda and Sainsbury's. No Co-op. Lidl, for miles and Aldi is unreachable.

Sounds like you've not been in either of them recently. The only food items on my shopping list I've been unable to source from Aldi are salsa and guacamole - so I've learned to make them myself.
